whats the most you'd pay for stock sport shocks???
there's a pair for sale on ebay right now with 7K miles on them, they may actually belong to someone here, i can't remember. is the improvement over stock "blue springs" that great??? ohlin's aren't in the budget right now and neither are any other aftermarket set-ups. thanks for the input............

The shocks are not valved any differently really. They are just another height. Depending on what you want to do, that may be enough.
Otoh, a shorter paralever strut might get you 90% of the bang for 20% of the buck, if you're not already running one.

Those shocks are mine.
I was told first hand by a German BMW motorcycle engineer that they are valved and sprung differently. They do make a difference over the stock ones with ore without the shorter paralever.

True, but the difference is extremely slight. A tiny bit more compression damping, and no detectable difference in rebound. Still a good purchase for someone, but don't expect a big bump in performance from a damping perspective. The real change is in length

What about the later, non-sport light front? I believe the rear is 310mm.

It would be relevant to know BubbaZanetti's year/model as well as a donor bike's. Since most rear sport shocks are 310mm, he could wind up lowering the rear and slowing the handling.
There's two sets of shocks on eBay. The set with 7K seem to be from a Sport Light. The other set from an '05 BCR, which are longer, I believe. I think the rear has a taller bracket on it, increasing it's length. Those might be the ones to get. It's hard to believe with most front shocks being 319mm and most rears being within 4mm of each other that length is the most significant difference.

Steve the Sport Light's are the longest, the BCR 's are the shortest of all:
Here is how it goes: Rear Stock: 314 Rear Sport Light: 318 to be used with the longer paralever or the shorter one for some really light steering Rear Sport (BCR): 310 to be used with the shorter paralever ONLY

I agree Steve, that we dont' have enough info to provide much advice, given that we know nothing about BZs bike. All I can say is that the damping change is minimal or less, which by default leaves even a moderate change in length as the major variable.
Alls you have to do is compare them and ride them back to back and it becomes pretty easy. I don't think you have to be a shock expert to tell either. They are VERY close in tuning. Remember, they dont' want to give you enough rope to hang yourself. Ever noticed that turning the knob from even one extreme to the other on the front has little effect? It's on purpose. Talk to anyone that knows shocks and these bikes and you won't get a different answer. Plus, a net 4-5mm difference at the shocks is more than twice that at the axles and that is a moderate, but very noticeable diff in handling. The factory is NOT going to supply two or more versions with night and day diffs in handling. The changes, available by choosing which shock, or which shock setting, are intentionally held to a pretty small range.

wow, this took off in my few hours away.........
my bike is a 99, standard S with a stock (longer) paralever. i was gonna wait till that crapped out to change it, so who knows. seems like the difference is negligable, but cheap is cheap and i may still consider it. i sort of assumed that being from the factory they wouldn't be radically different.............

Dirt cheap, and the strut is enough to feel a big difference.
A better deal than the shocks, I believe.
