the coolest hot jacket ? {and the love of beef & pork}

I gotta get me the coolest {free-flowing} jacket that comes with the most protection: Currently ride in the sweltering, muggy Jersey heat in a Vanson perforated leather jacket {only the chest is perforated} I am toying with the idea of going textile, and foresaking my four-legged love of all things on the hoof. {steaks, leather}

am looking at Joe Rocket textile {have no idea which model makes sense} for hot weather.

also looking at Cortech, but have been riding with guys who swing cortech style, but they look like they don't hold up.

love my broke in old school Vason, but need to stop sweating like a pig {another fave four legged friend} mmmmm bacon.

adios, Be_are_why, the "anti-vegan"

I've been really happy with my AirFlow jacket (and pants). I have confidence in the quality of construction and abrasion resistance. Maybe you can find it on clearance somewhere...

You can't get more ventilated than this Vanson...

Saw one at Laguna, and it is very cool.

Just picked up one of these Spidi Netrics H2Out Cordura Jacket for $80.00 (original price $279). It's a mesh body, with Cordura sleeves (outer portion) and a waterproof, windproof removable liner. Warning: Made for skinny people. Size Large is a 42 chest with a 32-33 waist. Nice jacket.

Try this website.

http://www.dririder.com.au/products.asp?menu=40&main=AIRFLOW

It is an Australian company but they may have a dealer near you. Prices are reasonable and I can testify that although the wind blows straight through, rain somehow gets shed off or redirected even though the liner was not installed. It has CE in the elbow/forearm and shoulder areas.

If anyone is interested in one of the Dririder products, I can get an idea of price and post things USA-side. I am in Melbourne and there are several bike shops with Dririder stuff near me. Don't forget, US$3=AUS$4 so the prices are 25 percent 'cheaper'

Even with temps here in the 90's I always wear at minimum a mesh jacket. Mine is a Fieldshear and after 2 years is still in good shape. Plenty of padding in all the right places. Yes it's ugly. Price was in the $80's, so if it saves me any skin at all it was worth it.

I have the Vanson Ventilator, I like it. But the motorcycle cruiser mag review cited on their website says it comes with CE armor. Mine did not (Vanson soft armor instead, which seems like crap), and unless Vanson changed the armor they include with it, I'm wondering if they just sent those testers a jacket with the CE armor (you can of course add it yourself at extra $$$). Without good armor, I question how well the ventilator protects, but it is definitely comfortable.

I have a Dainese mesh jacket that I love. I live in NYC and it gets HOT riding around/stuck in traffic. I have a Dainese spine protector that I use that is interchageable w/my Dainese fall/winter jacket as well. It's great and I love it. It's a second skin in the summer time.

BRY - The BMW AirFlow jacket is good up to the high 80, low 90s. At that point I switch over to a Joe Rocket Ballastic. There is a new summer suit (jacket and pants sold seperately) by BMW called the Ventilating Machine. It is just now coming into some of the BMW Moto shops. It is to be better at cooling than the AirFlow which is being phased out. That means you might be able to get an AirFlow at a good price. The Ventilating Machine suit will NOT be cheap - I think the jacket and pants will run about $350 each.

Why not start out simple with some of the $100 recommendations listed here? I wear the Joe Rocket Ballastic only because I picked it up on sale a few years ago and paid something like $75 for it. More important for those really hot days is one of the many cooling vests available. This is the single most important item you can wear to cool down and you get to wear whatever safety gear over it. motorcycleinfo.calsci.com has a section on Riding Accessories which reviews the vests available. I bought a Miracool Vest and love it. For those long summer rides that start with cool air in the early morning and brutal heat by noon, I take the dry vest with me, have lunch somewhere, hydrate myself and hydrate the vest, too. I'll go into a men's room, fill a plastic baggie with the vest in it with water, let it soak a couple of minutes, put it on and ride off in air conditioned splendor.

BTW, I wear the BMW Summer Trousers and I like them. Easy to wash. The best summer glove I have found is the ICON Pursuit.

Never tried a cooling vest. Would it work well underneath a Roadcrafter? If so, any particular recommendation?

New Enuff had on for $25, normally $30. Do a search here. They are fairly thin even wet.

I got the the Fieldsheer pants and jacket. The protections are really good, some of the best I've seen.

Underneath I wear a t-**** and shorts. It keeps me very cool even in the 90s. [img]

I've been using the Joe Rocket armored mesh Ballistic jacket for 3 years. It has worn very well, still in great shape, the armor is good and the cooling is excellent. Its brutal at stops but once you're rolling its very good. Try to get silver though, not black.
