Center Stand Corrosion
For those that have them, is anyone elses center stand rusting? I'm wondering about mentioning it to my dealer or just repainting the thing myelf.
For those with other suggestions, I do intend on keeping it on the bike. Thanks in advance, Jeff |

It is rusting where the crossbar is welded to the legs. It is getting worse with time.

Hi Jeff-
Try the "Magnet Paint Company" @ 1 800 922 9981. They sell a product called "chassis paint". I tried it on a snow plow frame (a true test of longevity). It went on easy, smoothed out to a perfect finish then dried hard as a rock. To date (2 yrs.) I've had no chipping or cracking of the paint. I hope thats the right #. They sell to heavy truck repair shops, etc. Have seen their add's in the heavy truck mags. Good luck, Jim Karns |

FOLLOW-UP TO THE ORIGINAL POST:
I owe a follow-up to my original post to the BB and other R1100S owners and lurkers. After detailing the bike this weekend, I took a close look at the centerstand. What I saw as corrosion was simply rust colored run off from the 'feet' of the stand. It seems that the 'feet' of the centerstand have become scratched up (as expected) from normal use. When the stand is up and the bike ridden in the rain or washed, the dirt and (expected) corrosion from the 'feet' of the stand runs to where I claimed the stand was rusting. The corrosion I complained about in my original post, simply wiped of with a little effort. Boy was that embarrassing. Thanks for the responses, though. -Jeff |
