battery tender hookup
On my Duc I made a little cable on the battery with a plug at the end to stick in the tender plug thing. I just read in the 'balky starting' post that they easilly hook up throught the accessory socket.
How do I hook up there and how do I find this socket? -_- rob |

Rob. Not all machines are fitted with the accessory socket. If I am correct this needs to be specifed as a factory option. However I also believe it can be retro fitted by your dealer.
I made up a short lead fitted to the battery with a plug on the trailing end to which the battery charger is connected. Sounds like the same idea you had on the Duke. This works fine, is connected in seconds and is far cheaper than having the accessories socket fitted. |

actually there is a separate female adapter that can be purchased from the dealer. It is very tidy and has it own snap cap. Then you can purchase as many male ends to connect to it. One for the charger, one for emergency cellphone charge, etc.
here are the us part numbers 71 60 2 337 399 retail us $51.49 female adapter, lines to battery, mounting plate etc. 61 13 8 060 106 retail us $10.49 male plug ends. hope this helps. |

The accessory socket is a piece of cake to install. The wire is located under the seat. Just untape it and route as shown in the instructions. Use a wire to snake the connector along the frame. Fish the snake wire up from the bottom. No need to remove the fairing. The mounting bolt BMW supplied, was the wrong thread pitch (coarse instead of fine) but the stock bolt works fine. Good luck.

Moose-
I ran my own wires from the battery terminals to hook up a charger. Where is this wire taped under the seat? I would love to use that instead. Thanks. |

The wire that moose is talking about is really a plug in jack that is mounted on the upper subframe of the bike on the right hand side.(sitting on the bike). Remove the seat and maybe the right rear body panel.depend on where the jack is taped on the subframe.I found it to be a little strange that the accessories socket is mounted on the left side of the bike but the plug-in for it is on the right side. If you are still not sure go the the dealer and ask if you can "look" at one of the socket and take a look at the direction. The location is printed on the instructions... Good luck Rick |
