[UPDATE] My slipping clutch problem
I took my 2004 R1100S into BMW of Ventura (California) last week. I told the service writer, Butch that the clutch appeared to be slipping, and asked him to have it checked out.
Butch told me if the clutch was bad, it would be a $1,000+ fix. He told me while they were at it, he would go ahead and have the recall on the twin sparc done under warranty. Funny... I just had the bike in for 6,000 mile service at BMW of Hollywood a couple of weeks prior. Nice of them to offer to fix it then. I decided after some shoddy treatment after the 6,000 mile service, that I would never take my bike to BMW of Hollywood again. BMW of Ventura called me a couple of days later with some bad news. My clutch was shot, and the parts were on order so it would take a few days longer. The good news was that they decided to cover all the work under warranty! I just got the bike back today. Looks like they replaced the entire clutch assembly. Total cost to me $0. They couldn't have been nicer, or more professional. BMW of Ventura just got a new customer! My S runs great now... I just got back from a ride, and it's like a new bike. |

Did they tell you why your clutch failed though? Tranny seals, crank seals, clutch slave cylinder? It would be good to know. Keep an eye on that junction between the engine and tranny - that's where you can see if there is fluid getting on your clutch.

Butch gave two reasons; the "official reason" it was warranteed and a "you and I both know" reason. I have to commend him for pushing it through. |

Good to see BMW do the right thing!
An act like this makes BMW far more money in the long run! |

I have not heard anything good about the Hollywood store.
They seem to be overwhemed with too many brands. Be glad you didn't have the warranty work done there.
