Exclamation Hi, I'm new here... Hello everyone!

Hello, I'm ChaZ. I tried to get an username as ChaZ but it was already taken. So I had to resort to Xa3, which is Russian equavalent of ChaZ.

I just recently bought brand new 2004 R1100S (Mandarin and Titanium) and already went over 1K miles on it. I love it so much. I, however do experience sleeping sensation in heel of my palms. I already ordered "Barbacks" and I hope that should rectify that.

So far I've gotten:

Scorpio 2-way alarm system
Brake! led brake tail light.
Kisan headlight modulator
Kisan Signalminder (brake wire not yet connected to the module, but that will soon be done today so the signal turn won't cancel itself while the brake lever is pressed down)
Tank Protector
BMW cases (with City Lids, and the special hinges from CycleGadget)
Big Mak's air tank bag.
Headlight protector
Kryptonite Disk Lock (It's my baby! No way I want it to be stolen...)
Reflective stickers that goes on side and rear of BMW cases.
Bungee Buddy for BMW cases, so I can lash down more stuff on it for long trek.
Stick-on Temperature guage from cyclegadget

I ordered dual seat with removable backrest from Corbin, so my girlfriend can ride with me on long trip.

Do you guys have any suggestion on what I can add to my bike to make it more efficient or more safe? I'm thinking of adding PIAA lights but I don't know what it will look like if installed on my bike. Does anyone of you have a picture of your PIAA on your bike? I'm hoping for one that can be attached under the fairing and not stick out on my forks.

This forum is the most informative website I have yet found on internet. Yes, I've done search but sometimes the information I got might be outdated so I'm open to new ideas or suggestion...

Pleased to make your acquantance...

-ChaZ

Dobry Den ChaZ! Welcome - you have a well optioned bike there and I always really liked that colour combination. Yeah I think a more upright ride will get that sleeping sensation of your palms, especially two-up. Where are you located in Arizona? I really love the windy mountain road up to Jerome from Prescott.

Regards,
Lane

Welcome Chaz! Man thats a lot of goodies for a newbie, you'll fit in just fine!

I run the PIAA 1100X on my scooter with the lower leg fork mounts. Under the fairing on the S is not a good location because the clearance isn't all that good. A lot of guys run the HID kit. If I could do it over I'd go HID

Velkommen ChaZ...you have made a got choice mit der barbackenzei...

Tip...don't mount anything under the front of the fairing...it will get verklempt the first time you bottem out the front end.
There are fork mount kits for the PIAA's about, but you're best bet is to get a HID kit for the low beam...spankin' good lights.

Lessee, what else do you need?...

I also suffered a numb right hand on my 6000 mile S. I cured it by changing from 5W40 oil to 5W50 fully synthetic, it is now a dream to ride here in the south of France.

Welcome, ChaZ!

It sounds like your bike is a prep, in which case you can put the clip-ons above the triple clamp to raise them as well.

No ABS, right?

You might want to consider the taller windscreen, assuming you have the shorter one.

But the shorter screen will generally be quieter, and in the desert SW, cooler.

HIDs make a cleaner, less cluttered, and brighter alternative to PIAAs

Oh yeah,

Welcome.

If you figure out where to mount the temp gauge without it showing a good 10-20degrees off, let me know. I mounted mine to the upper clamp and it's never right. Well, unless the sun happens to be hiding on the other side of the planet.

Rattus: "Where are you located in Arizona? I really love the windy mountain road up to Jerome from Prescott."

I live in Scottsdale. Yes I love that windy road up to Jerome. I plan to go up there soon after I "train" my girlfriend not to lean on me too much while riding with me.

1100s nut: "Are you of russian decent?"

Nope. I'm 1/2 German and 1/4 Irish, 1/4 Dutch. I went to Russia 2 times. One month for each trip. My first trip was during the communism. My last one was when they "pretend" to be capitalist.

flatbutt: "Man thats a lot of goodies for a newbie"

I have been doing a lot of research because I have always wanted to own a BMW for many years. I have 34" inseam so the BMW was the right choice because I felt out of place with Japanese bikes. I originally wanted R1150R but when I saw R1100S at my dealership, I knew I had to get it because I wanted muffler out of my way!

Rapid Dog: "There are fork mount kits for the PIAA's about, but you're best bet is to get a HID kit for the low beam...spankin' good lights."

Yeah, I think I might opt for H1 HID. Because I have Headlight Modulator from Kisan, that means I can't get H7 High Beam HID because of long time for an arc to be made?

P.S.- Thank you so much for your help with my barback purchase. I look forward to getting them in my mail...

madman: "I also suffered a numb right hand on my 6000 mile S. I cured it by changing from 5W40 oil to 5W50 fully synthetic, it is now a dream to ride here in the south of France."

I don't think it was changing oil that did it. I think it was living in southern France that did it.

Steve Carlton: "It sounds like your bike is a prep, in which case you can put the clip-ons above the triple clamp to raise them as well. No ABS, right?"

I don't think my bike was a prep. It has an ABS system. Sorry for not mentioning that in first place. It also has heated grips, so I don't think the prep would have heated grips for racing, right?

roger albert: "But the shorter screen will generally be quieter, and in the desert SW, cooler."

Hmm, it would be hard for me to know which screen would be more quieter or noisy as I am deaf. But I do AGREE that it is more cooler!

SergioK: "If you figure out where to mount the temp gauge without it showing a good 10-20degrees off, let me know. I mounted mine to the upper clamp and it's never right. Well, unless the sun happens to be hiding on the other side of the planet."

I also mounted it to the upper clamp where I took out BMW logo. Yeah I noticed that the temperature on it was high because of engine temperature... or the front headlight temperature?

wswartzwel: "...and some entertaining personalities too."

Yes, that's what I liked about this forum as well.

Thank you for all of your replies! I really appreciated them.

As for the PIAA, I will try the H1 and see where that go from there...

Should he be concerned with the Signalmaster causing problems with his electrical system (with EVO brakes)?

Xa3: Welcome! How does ChaZ translate to a name with a letter? Didnt think the Russians were that weird.

After this weekend I might have a Corbin & backrest (with yellow plumbing) for sale, all depends what my GF thinks of it. I want a normal seat as I find the Corbin to be too flat for spirited riding.
Jeff W has the HID lights OMG what a difference they make. Being infront of him you could turn your lights off and still see better then your stocks... Its on my list of upgrades to get.

Steve: First few out in that combo were Prep, then they decided to do the "order anything you want" and allowed that color in any setup.

Enjoy the new bike! And enjoy the forum.
Matt

I don't think so.

When the wire is attached between the Kisan SignalMinder and tail-light brake electric wire, the module only recieves the electricity from the brake wire to "tell" it not to turn off the signal turn. I don't think it will have any effect on the EVO system.

I need it because I like the running light. I also noticed that the SM is way cool because:

1. If I hold down any turn signal switch, (as opposed to click on it), it will do a series of 5 fast flash to be followed by regular flashing) I love using that feature when I want to zoom and cut in front of other car.

2. I can pre-set the turn signal at 8 second and the rest I forgot! That way I just use it to make turn and forget about it.

3. You can click on the same turn switch again to cancel it so you don't have to turn it off.

I know some may think they don't need it. But after using it, Ahhhh...
