Cat Code Plug
I have replaced the catalyst with a Laser mid section. There is a lot of talk about the "cat code plug". Where is it and is worth unplugging?

Don't bother with the plug. I requested my dealer remove mine when they installed my Staintune. The thought was that without the plug, the bike would default to a 'richer' map and eliminate the 'slight' popping heard when rolling off the throttle. In reality, my wrench told me after he returned from BMW training, that the map it defaults to is the same one for the R850R. He suggested I replace the plug. The result of replacing the plug was that I discovered the slight improvement in mid-range that the Staintune offers with no increase in popping from the exhaust.

jgrm1,
Thanks. I did some looking around on other sites as well. There seems to be a mixed opinion as to whether it is worth pulling the plug or not, but nobody seems to have tried a before and after on a dyno (I'll probably be corrected) so I think I'll leave it plugged in. |
