The $8.75 safety clip
Hi all;
Just a little information to think about..While changing out my front brake pads to fix a rattle,i bent a keeper clip.This is the little silver clip that helps keep the retaining pin that your brake pads hang on from backing out of your calipers. You would think that i would know better after changing brake pads before.That said..The retaining pin has a slot in the end of it and i just took a screwdriver and turned the pin which screwed up the clip. So,being old and stupid i ran on down to my local dealer and thought that i could just get the clip...WRONG!!..you have to get the clip and the retaining pin as a set...$8.75..well i went around to the back and talk to one of the wrenches i know and cried a little bit and he gave me one for free... Just remember boys and girls that when you change your brake pads remember to remove that little silver clip first and that the retaining pin has to be driven out with a drift pin punch from the back side..One more note..if you go to after market brake pads there is a good change that the pads may rattle do to the fact that the stock pads have a little spring loaded clip on them that keep them tight on the retaining pin.. Ride safe Rick |
