Drive Shaft
Hi, I had my bike on the center stand, and decided to start it up and put it in gear to warm up the diff and gearbox oil before going for a spin. At idle and just of idle the driveshaft and diff started to jump about eratically. It's almost like something is binding in the joint between the diff and shaft. I had'nt done this before, so don't know if it's been like it since new, 4500kms ago.
So if anyone else has had or heard of anything like this happen, could you let me know. Paul. |

It might be normal. There is slack in the system and the engine power pulses at idle are quite abrupt so you could just be getting a resonance thing happening which causes it to slap around.
If it isn't showing any adverse symptoms in normal operation (wheel on ground), I'd forget about it. In any event, I doubt this practice is doing your bike any good and might be hurting it. The general rule is to start it up and go, driving gently until things warm up. Even if you feel you have to have some sort of engine warmp up period, I don't think there is any need to put the bike in gear and rotate the drivetrain. - Mark |

This is common for shaft-drives. The rpm's are too low for the gears. It's the same like driving real slow, the shaft then starts to 'sputter'.
