The final chapter to my crash is I am buying an identical 99 with some accessories and transfering the colateral from my old bike to the new one, thus keeping my present financing. Also I bought the wreckage from my bike, well my brother did, and we are going to put it back together, it will probably never be pristine again but at $2450 it is a hell of a lot of bike. We have been trying to find sources for used parts, since it takes so little damage to total one there must be good used parts out there somewhere, (of course the obvious reason there might not be is the same reason we bought this one back), but so far all we have found is one valve cover. Any Ideas?
Thanks, Dan |

Motobins and Motorworks in the UK are a good source of used bits. Both have web sites which are easy to find.

A good source for parts from private sellers in the US is the IBMWR classifieds. http://www.ibmwr.org/market/

the list:
rear frame, tab that the strut that supports the seat sheared off, dealer had to replace it, we will probably weld it back on/ front frame, left steering stop sheared off. cosmetic damage to the fairing at the front, we will polish it out and live with it or repaint, dealer had to replace. swingarm and differential each have scratches. It landed on its top, the pillion cover saved the corbin seat. The headlight, the instrument cluster, the frame for the fairing, both blinker pods, the windshield the clutch master cylinder, one handle bar, the brake master cylinder (scratched a little) starter button destroyed, left hand switch assembly destroyed, two rear turnsignals ... the key switch and the top yoke ... pretty much the whole windshield and control department got some kind of damage. oh, just about every foot peg and one passenger peg bracket, that's what broke the rear frame, landing on that peg. both valve covers, though it is the right one that was crushed and broken open. And caught fire apparently, though from my position doing summersaults down the track I missed the fire thing. If motorworks in england can start shipping to the US again it will be an easy repair and my brother will have a nearly pristine bike for about 4 grand total. All I can say is the insurance industry is amazing, They must make tons of surplus money on all the customers that don't file claims so that they have set this system up that needlessly totals perfectly repairable vehicles. Allstate gets five stars for their great customer service and quick and fair settlement. And low rates so far. Dan [This message has been edited by Danhunt (edited 03-06-2001).] |
