Question Before your S

I'm new to the club and what better way to get to know y'all than to find out what bikes you had before the S (only highlights please). I'm curious what made you buy the S and how you rate it.

I come from the days of the Fizzy and the RDLC's (250 - what a mad bike that was and no license needed). Stopped biking for about 8 years to join the rat race before I discovered life again in the form of the CBR600. Recently, had the Duke Monster then 2 successive Speed Triples (900 Daytona and 955 version), and now the S. Best all round bike in my opinion. The R1 may be faster (actually alot faster) but if speed is all its about then we'd all be riding R1's, right.

It'll be intersting what the Huns will come with to replace it with when the time comes.

Hi,

Back in April of 2000 there was a 2 page thread on this called (just searched and found it): What was your old bike

I found it by searching for one of my semi obscure bikes, an R60/2 Surf over there and look for more responses. Always cool to revive and old thread, and get/keep the info in one place. Welcome aboard.
regards
roger

Funny, I just found that same thread. Hey, Skim, if you're a London boy have you checked out the UK R1100S forum at http://www.egroups.com/group/Boxertrix ?

Skim,

Welcome to a great bike - although you seem to know that already! As Andy says, there is the Boxertrix group which is one that I began last Novemember - in no way is it a replacement for Pelican, far from it - Pelican is absolutely King No1 for 99% of S info and as you may know has a huge vault of objective and subjective opinion on this bike, all worth delving into. Boxertrix was something for a bit of 'Brit-banter' S-wise and has been a real success, thanks entirely to its members.

Come on over if you fancy it!

Found that old posting. What alot a nice bikes - Dukes, Triumphs, Guzzi's, Laverdas, BMW's. Certainly not many 4 cyl machines.

Also just subscribed to Boxertrix. Thanks.

Thumbs up

My last bike was an R1100S, I also know a few other riders that are repeat buyers. I think that says a lot about the S

Previous bike R1100 RS. I really enjoyed this bike. Thought I would buy the K12000 RS but dealer said take the S for a run. Sold me what a great bike, motor goes the way the Rs Should had gone. Rode my old RS the other day and thought the thing handled like a stick in a bucket of custard.

Bails,

'Stick in a bucket of custard' I like that.

I always thought 'A sack of spuds on the end of a twig' was nice too when descibing 'wayward' handling.

Richard.

Well, I came off an Aprilia RS125 straight to the S... weird huh?

Well it was the S or a VFR, but I have a *real* issue with chains.

and I ride too much so it has to last, bar the paint finish of course

I'm coming off an 89 Kaw ZX-10. I'll probably keep it around, for when I'm feeling squirrelly. My 'S (2001 SLA, black) may not have the arm-stretching acceleration, or the overall speed, but it's close enough for me and the handling more than makes up any differences. The heated grips and hardbags are sweet, too....

My previous bike -- Yamaha RD350!! Hey don't laugh...If you were fortunate to see The Art of The Motorcycle that was touring the country a couple of years ago, my bike was on display...somewhere between the MV Agusta and the Captain America Chopper!!!

Cool

Mine was a custom built 1974 Harley Shovelhead in a rigid frame with fat wheels and a hot motor.

Sold it and my Chev pickup to a neighbour to get the S. He is still talking to me as the bike still runs.

Big change.

R1100 GS before only got rid of it because the seat was too high-even in the low position. Love the S but have been disappointed with the finish.

Cool

what's wrong with four cylinders?
I had a fuel-injected Kawasaki for 18 years. During that time, I done some extensive modifications to get it to suit me. I loved that bike! Anyone who had been on the back never complained.(it don't get any better)Tha thing handled really well (not too fast in tight stuff though)was quick, and good top end.No reliability issues at all.Had to sell it to raise the money for the 's'.

My present bike is a 1990 GPZ500s, owned since 1991 now with 50k on the clock but still going strong. The other is a 1979 Fizzy with only 3.5k! Previously owned a GPZ1000RX, various trailies and a Garelli Concorde (much faster than a Fizzy)! Ordered the S because it handles, is not so fast I'll get banned or will put me in a hedge, doesn't need antifreeze and I'll never have to adjust the chain. Plus it's different and not at all a common sight down here.
