Post Tank bag

Hi all,

I need to buy a tank bag for the S. What, in your experience, is the best in terms of load carrying v security (i.e. will it fall off over 100mph!).

The BMW one is very expensive and not large enough for me. It would appear poor value for money although if it IS really good is it worth it?

Many thanks,

Richard.

I use the RK small tankbag (along with their saddlebags and tail bag). It stays on the bike all the time. When in collapsed postition its big enough for glasses and other small items. The expandable section opens large enough to fit a six-pack in. I've had no problems with movement except with crosswinds when it is expanded. It uses a three point mounting system, but there isn't much to grab onto in the front under the fairing.

I've got one of these coming in to my local accessory dealer in the UK to try out on the 11S. A bit pricey but a)they look the part, b)they appear to be high quality, c) they are no wider than the handlebars, c)they look secure.

I purchased the RKA (larger model) tank bag with external side pockets.
Its great. It uses 3 straps that have clips for easy removal and gas fill up.
The bottom of the bag has a very soft, thick fur like substance to keep from scratching the paint.
There is a map pocket on top and 2 interior compartments. It can be expanded or collapsed.
The external pockets are great for toll money/EZPass, tire gauge, etc.

Hi Gromit

My personal favorite, Marsee. There is a bunch of info on this topic in prior posts, just do a search (tank Bag)

Good luck

Hi Gromit:

I have the BMW tank bag for the S. It has an expandable section which can be zipped in to increase the bag volume. The construction and fit are first rate, and I have no regrets. It holds on regardless of speed, and is easy to flip up for fueling. Definitely consider it. Many dealers will discount it 20% and more.

Richard,

I've got the Wunderlich, fits, doesn't fall off and about half to third of the price of the BMW item. I know you've got the brochure but if you want a clearer picture I'll take a couple and post them on Boxertrix for you. Good to well over 130, the panniers start to make the bike weave a bit after that!

Hi,

Many thanks for all your comments chaps.

Martin;

Thanks for the offer of the pic - I've actually got the Wunderlich brochure and I've seen Paul Stratton's tank bag. A very nice peiece of kit it is too! You're right.

This is the one I was most likely to go for, I just thought it may be wise to get opinions on others, and where better to get it than here?

Regards,

Richard.

My two bits,
I paid the $410.00 AU, $205 US for the BM bag. It is a little small but excellent Qual, great fixing features , and easy to get around for fuel. I'm happy I paid for the Quality.

I went with the RKA also. It's a nice unit, well built, easy to mount, and mounts solid. They have a website if you care to check them out. There are lots of nice tankbags, get one that makes you happy...

Thumbs up

Richard,

The Wunderlicht is good. My only real gripe with it is that it could really do with sitting an inch or two further forward towards the handlebars. My six pack stomach (enlarged due to drinking too many six packs, rather than the flat, muscled variety) rests against it and leaves me riding with my arms straighter than is strictly ideal. I was thinking of glueing a velcro "tankpad" patch higher up the tank than the Wunderlicht lower harness reaches.

Cheers,

Paul
