And your point is...?

Many here race or have raced. Nothing whatever to do with riding on the street. The Harley dude shows bad technique and bad decision making. That's worth a laugh or two, especially with the pratfall on the end.

I could be wrong but, perhaps you would be happier on Sacborg or one of the other 'hard core' sport bike forums. Then you can puff out your hairy chest and declare your superiority for all to see. We seem to like it here just as it is.

Gee Overtorque,
I am not sure I got your point. So basically you are saying that we should take this Harley guy and all of his identical twins seriously? Somehow we have a cult going here because we happen to like our donkey bikes? If this wasn't your first post, I would mention that maybe you haven't been following the conversations around here. This board does occasionally rag on the HD crowd, but we also get digs in on the squids and other wanabes. Mostly, we just talk about riding and messing with our bikes. You will not there are a bunch of folks here who have more than one bike, most of the time it isn't a BMW. There are even a few guys here who proudly ride Harleys. You would note if you were actually around for it that we don't dump all over these folks. I might also mention that the president of my local BMW riding club is also a Harley rider. If BMW owners were such a cult I doubt he would even be in the club let alone the president.

I am sorry you are offended by us. Now go away.

Flatty- your robe is in the shop getting fluffed and scented. The ring is being powdercoated to match your bike. Could you pass the Grey Poupon?

Some thin skins out there!
So when you ride like a tool with no gear its okay and you should not suffer the wrath of the internet, give me a break.
To the complete pantloads who dropped by to voice their anger against the cruel snobby BMW crowd ,I blow my nose in your direction.
Overtorque: your great! Wow,when you signing autographs?

Thanks for the photo's guys LOL!!!!

Gee, this makes me think... if/when I go down, I hope it's cause I wasn't posing for the camera. I hope it's some external factor out of my control.

But, if I ever go down cause of some stupidity on my part... and a photographer just happens to capture it... I know I'll be ripped to shreds online moreso than my jeans and non-existant gloves (oh wait, I don't ride without the proper gear and pose for photographers while doing so).

i'm telling ya, pretty soon wayne should start considering turning this into a pay site and we should get a commission.

overtorqued appears to be the second guy to sign up just to flame us. cool!

i'm such a cult-head, arrogant, bias-pig that i laughed at the guy who looped the supermoto bike too.
done it..many times...mostly dirt bikes...and you always feel stupid...and all the other guys always laugh at you.

riding motorcycles includes falling down.
sometimes hard, sometimes not.

most bench racing sessions (especially dirt guys) are about crashes, damn-nears and the ridiculous things you've seen other people do. you're not sitting there telling everyone how fast you went, you're sitting there telling them all how hard you/he/we finally hit the ground. then there's a laundry list of what you bent, broke, destroyed...then it's the next guy's turn.

most times, everybody is laughing, and having a giggle at my/your/somebody's expense.

that has nothing to do with where your bike was assembled.
goldwings are made in ohio.
has nothing to do with being a poser.
everybody is a poser.

laughing at, picking apart and making fun of crashes and off-road excursions that aren't life-threatening has always been a part of motorcycling. it's a tradition.

i heard a motoGP rumor that a fellow GP rider recently greeted new "off-road specialist" gibernau with something like "So Sete, will you come sit with us after the race this time, or are you going to go somewhere else again?"

the crashing part isn't fun, but it doesn't take long.
the laughing at it part goes on for years.

i'd imagine that by now our friend Frank Floorboard is laughing about it. his buddies sure have a great one to tell. he'll be introduced as a famous unknown to every new rider he ever meets.

and when Frank tells the now-famous story himself, the other guys probably laugh.

(i'd also be willing to bet that mr. floorboard will probably never have to buy his own beer again).

In 91 they were showing a video of me crashing my R100GS on main street in some of the bars.
You take it like a man and don't whine, especially when the guys laughing at you can pound you into the ground like a tent peg.

WELL said Brad.

funny post too, Lance!

I'm not an HD fan, but neither an HD slagger. I try to keep a lid on the stupid anti-some-marque stuff, as well as the rabid pro-some-marque stuff. They're equally stupid and unthinking.

And yes, most of the things we talk about are the crashes/almosts.
And we DO laugh and cheer (and ocasionally shudder) at ourselves and others. Big deal. I can't believe a couple people got their panties bunched enough to actually sign up for a board just to rebutt a senseless thread. Talk about needing to get a life. Grrr.

For the record, we've all done stupid stuff. I'll hijack with some of my own, to document some stupidity /enforce a bit of humility on myself.

1A&B) first cross-country trip years ago was take, ironically, on the way to New Orleans and Gulf Port, after my crappy dwelling in Central IL had been flooded two days before. I didn't let back to back allnighters delay my trip more than a few hours. Took first stop after a long highway stretch outside nashville. Pulled into a gas stop and got off my bike.
Probably shoulda put the sidestand down. Did rest of the trip with a bent bar and 1/3 of a windshield missing, which really upset handling
Shouldn't have started that trip. Should've remebered to deploy the sidestand. Both stupid.

2) Riding way over my head on my first real trackday. I wasn't good for fast, and certainly hadn't learned "go fast in the fast parts and slow in the slow)
I tried medium in the slow and was WAY offline in a horseshoe turn.
I remember it seemed like a long time as I kept trying to tighten the turn, and then touched my foot down, and then my brake pedal (despite rearsets) and seeing the grass rush up at me. I remember not even thinking I might save it, but just wondering "I wonder how much this is going to hurt?" Then in a flash it was over (and I stayed on track -- how, I still dont' know)

We all F-up and ride over our skills sometimes. If your'e really unlucky, you do it without gear, and in front of a camera.

3) Just last month (do we ever really learn)
Got a little big for my britches and decided to pass 4 guys at once. On the straight leading up to my weakest corner on that track, no less. Duh.
Made it around 3 of them easily. The 4th was trying the late on the brakes routine like me. No problem, I think. He's setting up to ride around the outside of these guys. I'll just go round the inside. Well, right at the end of the straight, he darts to the inside. I nail, I mean really nail my brakes, in the last little bit of the straight and promptly am launched out of my seat and up onto the tank. Way stupid. I should have been less aggressive, and should have applied the brakes more gradually instead of panicking. I ended up with bruised man-bits, a bruised knee (tank contact) and a pretty badly wrenched back. Got off pretty light, in the overall scheme of things, even if it still hurts 3 weeks later as I type this. I don't want any more unintentional, uncontrolled, triple-digit stoppies. I don't have the skill or balls. It just happened. I was totally taken by suprise. A giant WTF? It hurts. But it's funny.
The guys back at the paddock were laughing and talking about it the rest of the day. Wish the track photographer had caught THAT.
Then I'd have an avatar as cool as Lance's.

We all f-up. We can all laugh. Welcome to the human race.

too funny.
before that sidestand safety switch, i saw my share of 2mph gas station high sides too...even did a few myself (flipped a perfectly new rd400 that way).

how about: riding to work on sunset blvd., dual-purpose test bike (i was being punished), wearing bell bottoms, kick starter goes up billowing right pant leg, friend with me notices, we come to almost stop at light, he reaches over and pushes me to my right.
i try to take foot off peg, pant leg stops me cold.
tip over.

i've done the opposite too, when a tennis shoe lace got wrapped in the shift lever and i went to put the foot down at a stoplight...and no joy.

endurance road race, unexpected rider change, i jump on, forget to buckle helmet, coming off pit road onto track @100, helmet goes up, all i see is inside of what's supposed to be the chin area.
yea, that one was fun....
