Well sorry everyone's knickers got twisted...

I am not a time waster etc and I think my concern is genuine, Carlos I don't think you have altered the mileage at all; and I believe you are selling the bike for a genuine reason.

However I still find it hard to believe that the bike has nothing on paper in the last six years that has its mileage indicated.

Like perhaps a tire receipt? if your friend gave you a receipt for the new tires and it had a date and a mileage on?

It also seems odd that your friend drove around on the bike for 4 years (at least) and never had an oil change? if he did that would also be on a receipt with a date. You should ask him for these things.

:(

run the VIN thru a BMW m/c shop- even if it is not their bike, they should be able to track it's info for you. assuming that stuff has been done at the dealer.
probably on original tires, but sould have been at least one oil change, and certainly a 600m service.
personally- it sounds like you're looking for problems where none exist. and with those low miles, and equiped as it is- the $7k is a fair price. not great, but thoroughly fair.
of course, YMMV

I am not flipping the bike, like someone suggested, I have not altered the mileage... Indeed I paid $7K for and I have spent ~ $180.00 on the battery, spark plugs, oil and detailing.

Just because it's too big for me doesn't make me a dishonest person or "something fishy" I don't appreciate that.

Carlos- I suggested a possible scenario on bmwforums.com. At the time of my post Bart_dood was describing a bike that:
- had odd clutch behavior
- had 5K miles in 6 years w/some damage w/o any service history
- had an owner selling it after having it two weeks

Here's my posts you didn't like:

"Good chance he's telling the truth; good chance he's not and he could be flipping the bike or something worse. Have you seen the title and registration? Does he have the service records? A 6 six year old bike with 5K miles isn't necessarily a good thing. Could you talk to his friend? How about having a dealer look it over?"

AND

"Looks like it's this bike, right?

http://www.craigslist.org/sby/mcy/101904724.html

"Seller said he bought the bike 2 weeks ago; that plus the clutch issue = forget it. Sounds fishy. Plus, its DDP (Dog Dick Pink). For a little more money, you can get a lot nicer bike, like maybe an '02 for $8K?..."

It's good you're willing to let a mechanic look at it and have a potential buyer speak with the original owner. I was only cautioning Bart_dood as this is an odd situation. Selling a bike that you've put 5 miles on, that you bought from a friend, that's too big, heavy, and powerful sounds hard to believe. Doesn't mean it's not true, but other possibilities exist, Carlos.

I didn't see your ad here on Pelican.

BTW- did you go to the DMV and post the use tax and transfer fees? Did your friend report the transfer to the DMV? What's the VIN number?
