Post 2002 prices

I was talking to a BMW salesman in Idaho and he said the 2002 non abs S was going to sell for $13,000. Just one more thing to hurt resale value if true. I was looking at the latest motorcycle consummer news and it had used bike values listed. It looks like the S has taken the biggest hit on resale value compared to the other BM's Oh well I did not buy it to sell it anyway.

It could be a lot worse. Honda just put some major incentives to move the remaining 2001 929s and dealers are advertising $8K OTD. Imagine what this has done for the resale of bike some guy just bought for $10K four months ago.

Agreed. I paid ga-googles for a Mille just 16 months ago and even though its low milage and flawless 9000 is about all I can get for it. It sure has been a fun way to waste money however........

BMW has done this sort of thing before....reduce the price on a remaining technology.......because a new one is right around the corner. This will be the last year of the S as we know it. A new unit will be here for the 2003 year. Best,

We have seen this here in Europe over the last couple of months.
The bike market is down by >8%. The german market figures for 1st semester look like this: Top looser is Yamaha (-25%), Aprilia (-24%), HD (-24%), Honda (-16%). Winners are: Suzuki +8%, BMW, +5% and KTM +12%.
This makes some producers give high incentives to their dealers to get rid of the stocks. The fact, that the 2002 Fireblade was caught on testing and photographs being published makes the old Firebalde unsaleable w/o discount.
It's not uncommon to get an extremely good price on the purchase of some jap models - which kills the resale value.
I got a discount of 8% on my S (basically accessories for free incl ABS), which was way more I ever expected from BMW. Looks like the S is positioned in a hot market with competition playing the money game...
But prepare to see some more sales promotions by the competition in the months to come. The season will last another couple of months, with a lot of new bikes in stock...

Looked at a Moto Guzzi V11 Sport last year. Dealers were asking $11,900. Now there selling for $8-8500 used 1 year later...ouch. Bad news for them, good news for me if I decide to add one to the garage.
(love the looks/sound of that bike!).How is this for logic "honey, I'll let you keep the entire $600 tax rebate if I can get another bike"

Maybe not a good idea to buy a last years V11 - it had some serious flaws. I like the V11 very much. A true alternative for bicylindrico fans. One of the impressive and interesting comings of the last years. Imo a little expensive for the tec used (sells 400$ catalogue price less than a basic S in Europe). Since Aprilia took over, they made an impressive amount of modifs to the V11, some of which are major ones, like frame geometry (because those bloody german testers found the bike to be unstable at higher speeds).

All those mods which make the new V11 a better performing bike than the last years release are probably the reason for the discounts you see.

We love our S bikes and there's no way that when it's all said and done that you're gonna find a better bike even if nothing's improved

What's your point?

Yes to the first part and ... dunno bout the second ... the revised FJR1300 might come damn close to being a better bike.

My point was just laughing at Dr. Curve - for all his bold forgone predictions of a new S this year, all we got was detail updates for 2003.

And I'm still waiting for the F650 with a better power/weight ratio than our S bikes.
