Battery Overflow
 

Just did a CLASS school at Road Atlanta last week and had an odd occurance - the battery overflow dumped acid all over my rear wheel leaving spots of damaged paint. Although I have done plenty of high speed - long distance running, such as the interstates, this track ride involved much more high rpm use. Could the battery be getting overcharged at the higher rpm's and cooking off? Has anyone else experienced this and could I possibly have a warranty claim here?

Take your battery out, measure the level on a bench, and put back in the bike only after the fluid level is no greater than the 'Max' line imprinted on the battery itself.
What you described can ( and does ) happen to overfull batteries.

Number one mistake when servicing the battery is to take the caps off and look down into each cell. When the battery is correct, the water will not touch the rings. The only way to get it right is to take the battery out, and put a strong light behind it and compare with the MAX line. Any other way can lead to overfill and overflow when running hard.
