Angry Increase engine oil level

Ok, another oil level reading problem. I know what your all thinking, yes we've beat this topic to death with no real conclusion on the correct method to read oil level. But my oil level seems to decrease as the oil cools. My method of level check=> Bike engine hot, turn off, sidestand for 10min, centerstand. I put up on the centerstand and level is at 3/4ths high in the window. Wait a day and oil now smack in the center of window.
Whats the deal.
Is my oil expanding when hot then volume decreasing as it cools??? If not, where is my oil disapearing to??

DCollins,
I suspect that the oil makes more volume when hot...kinda like air but....you know.
The Duc manual specifies checking when hot, which I do, then looked at it again in morning when things have cooled off and it drops in the window about like what you describe in your S.
Bottomline...if it's anywhere in the window, it's fine.

After running awhile, there's a bunch of air in the oil –*overnight the AirBunnies® come and reclaim it for their breeding programme(GBR –* Gratious British Recalcitrant spelling content ) underground, whence it is used to forment revoloution amongst young Bunnies and recycled back into the atmosphere.

I've gotta stop this...YAHBO, where are you??

You shouldn't be to much concerned about the oil level. If you don't change your riding habits and check the oil level every 200 miles that should be good enough. I do not see a reason why an engine should eat a lot of oil between fuel stops (only reason may be racing) as soon as it is broken inn.
Since the last service (6000mls), oil level on my S has only changed within reading tolerances - not worth filling up as it is still on the upper side.
If you fill up go easy...
