something to check
Hi all.
Got a flat tire yesterday, in a brand new tire of course, and got out the trusty BMW repair kit. Find the nail hole, install the plug, and go to inflate .... won't work. It seems the storage spot for the kit isn't too waterproof and the little needle that is supposed to puncture the cartridge is very rusty and just mashes down. So, a sealed tire and no air. Might be an idea to go and take a look and see how yours is doing before you need it. The knife was really rudty too and almost didn't cut the plug. The next one I get I'll put some grease inside there to stop the rust, maybe in a baggie too. Dan |
Well, at least you HAD a puncture repair kit. My '98 S doesn't (as I found out one Sat Eve in the middle of deepest Lincolnshire).
There isn't even a space provided for one. Does it go under a plastic cover in the seat itself as in an R11R or is it under/near the toolkit ? Any other S's without a kit out there or do I have some weird pre-production '98er ? |

Are you sure? The puncture repair stuff is under the seat, just back from the shock mount there should be a black plastic cover with two screw/clip things to hold it in place. Look under there. Malc |
Yep, mine became water logged, too, and ruined my owners manuals. Cover was in place as stock.

Had the same problem, water got in there from washing the motorcycle (I think?). Being that I live in CA and it hasn't rained here in months (and I don't drive in the rain unless I have to!), this is a good assumption. I just drilled a couple of small holes in the lower corners of the storage area to let any water in there drain out. If you ride in the rain alot, maybe this is not the best solution...
