Post waxing over decals

Well, I have that special mandarin/black, special edition paintjob with tons of decals. The worst part is that decals are not even clearcoated which sux. Even Honda, clearcoats, their decals, and I would want to take some of those off.

Turtle wax was saying something about not waxing the decals. I did anyways, and it doesn't seems to disturb anything yet. I was wandering if anyone who owns, this very "special" ; ) pain in a butt color scheme, have any experiences that would share.

I don't have ths usper special one, BUT I do regularly wax the decals on the standard model without any problems. Of course I don't use Turtle wax so YMMV...

Question

Hi All - and following on that subject, would anyone know the best way to remove the decals (one of my "R1100S" ones on the tail is scratched) and whether replacements are available?

Thanks.

Boris, come on, it's not Mandarin! It's Dakar Yellow! A *real* BMW colour!

The only thing bad about waxing the plethora of decals was the build-up on the edges. Other than that, they love being waxed.

As far as removing them, I think they just peel off...

Part numbers are:
51142328624 (Orange/Silver/Blue)
51142328631 (Black/Silver/Blue)

Or, you could just print out this

Thanks! Where can I get decal stock for my printer?

Where did you find the part numbers? Can't seem to access the www.bmwgod.net site anymore...

To protect the decals I've heard you should line them with an edge of clear nail polish. This way when you wax and wash they don't peal.

I haven't tested this yet on my S to see if the nail polish will melt the fairing so Please test before you trust.

I would seriously re-consider applying nail polish to your bike. Who knows what it will do/look like in a few years come resale time...Ditch the decals but if you decide to keep them, a trick to removing wax buid up around their edges is to bite off the tip off a toofpick, soften it up with saliva and gently ride the edge of the decal with it...
