Question Painted valve covers

My valve covers got some scratches... I've seen cool pictures of black painted covers. Anyone know the best way to "paint" (or whatever) the valve covers?

And, would it be possible to "fill" deep scratches?

Knut,
I just painted mine last weekend. I used a low gloss black (spray can)from the local Auto Zone store. It's good to 500 degeers F. I removed the covers, roughed them up with fine sandpaper - which was tough getting between the cooling fins, then gave them 2 coats. Did'nt have any deep scratches so I can't advise you on that. I chose not to paint the bolt head or washer - The contrast looks great.

I had my heads powdercoated for about 50 bucks for both. Looks like it was done at the factory and really makes the bike stand out. The wheels are next.
