Streamlined Rear Turn Signals: Need your inputs...

Ok, I have been thinking about making my tail section more streamlined and sleek. I decided that those clunky turn signals would have to go.

So far, I have removed the passenger pegs, slapped Corbin smuggler seat on it, installed Laser exhaust with stealth license plate. Followed with black pyramid rear fender and removed the center stand. It look superb but those darn turn signals really screw up the fine line.

I have decided that I will replace them and install the LED turn blinkers that are reserved for most sportbikes for their front signals. Look at this website: http://www.watsendesign.com/products/current/LEDMINIBLINK/index.html

I want to place them on the tail body near the brake light, right under the seat compartment. I was wondering if you guys have any idea or inputs from your experience of doing the modification. Is it do-able? Is it illegal to use amber LED lights for turn signal in Arizona (and California, I go there all the times)?

If you have done similar mods, please share your pictures... I'm thinking of having the led turn signal be done in black color so the amber light will stand out better during the daytime. My bike is Titanium/Mandarin Yellow 2004 model.

Thanks! -ChaZ

looks like it'd work.
you'd probably get way with amber lights here in socal.

actually, you don't have to run turn signals at all over here, but you DO have to use arm signals when making a turn within XXX feet of any other vehicles, blah, blah....

plus an AZ license plate in socal gets you off the hook for most everything but doing stupid shiit (more than 80mph in most spots, yellow lines, wheelies, etc...).

ps: i'd go with the 8 light version, rather than the 5.

One more, just to think about Is kellermann from germany. I have them and love them. About the size of your middle finger. Very small and vert bright. Bought mine from the speigler brake line folks. They do not fit the oem holes, slight mod, easy to do.

Bought these from www.r1100sgoodies.com (I think), look very smart but blink a little on the fast side, even with a resistor built in.

I just talked with Ron Watkins at Hyperlight yesterday about what I could do for the back and he said they're comming out with a couple of new products. One called the Sport which will be a combination tail light, brake light and sequential <<<<<<<<>>>>> >turn signal within a very small pachage!

That would ROCK! Did he say when they will be coming out?

-ChaZ

P.S.- And that would require clear tail len. I better get one ASAP before they run out when that new product comes out.

I just realized something...

If those Hyper Lite's sport version for our model came out, it would not be functioning because I already installed Kissan running light module. If both turn signals are turned on at 50% intensity as running lights, the turn signals will be doing <<<<<<<<<<>>>>>>>>>> sequences, screwing up my tail light display.

So I've decided that I will go ahead and get that 8 leds turn signal thingy from the website I mentioned above. That way, it will look like running light on the side and on the rear as well for additionaly safety during night.

I will order a pair and I'll take pictures of my project so you guys can also benefit from it.

Here's my home made "stealth" bracket with mini diamond blinkers:

From this angle them blinkers are hidden..

One more from the side:

I purchased some of those from watsendesign.com and they worked out fine (bolted right to the original spot). I purchased the "Honda" ones, like pmc847. I also installed the optional resistor that slows down the blinking speed to normal (it gets hot, so I zip-tied it in foil before pushing it up inside the plastic bits).

Here is an alternative. Might be a great addition too.

Hmm, my stealth license plate bracket is placed at an awkward angle (to avoid being nabbed by radar cameras) so I think it wouldn't work on my bike. But it looks great!
