I am going on friday night. I went on a friday for the first time last year and found it much more enjoyable because it's lighty attended. This year we are going later friday because we are invited to hang with some reps for a post show get-together. (family in the biz and working at the show)

I'll be there, probably on friday afternoon as well. Finally going to buy one of those Flitz balls and look for a visor replacement/shop helmets.
I'll be in my Orange and Black Savannah Jacket. Bob

I think I'll try Friday evening this year. Apparently the R1200S will be at this show.

If you are going to the bike show this weekend and have not purchased
your ticket yet, you can buy it online and get a FREE one year subscription to Cycle World magazine. Or add on a year. https://www.interactiveticketing.com/tickets/advanstar_chicago_2006/intro.html I will be going friday with some friends, we like to meet elsewhere, take one car, then do the valet parking thing. Sure its twice as much, but its only one car instead of five. chuck |

Post show impressions from this part of the pelican gallery.
I liked the new 1200S, a old 1100 would be fine for me too. I also caught myself between the K12S and GT. I found myself apreciating my near antique K100S more and more. I wish the new K12S had full size hard bags. We wandered into the Yamaha area and my brother and I both agreed the FJ1300 would be the bike if we did not have any brand loyalty to BMW sport tourers. I also sat on a R1LE, hard to imagine that any knuckel head with minimal credit could buy one of these missles. Very cool, but for about 5K more I could roll on a new TZ 250 with spares.... and the dreaming continues.. |

More notes: The red striped 1200S paint isn't totally horrible in person, but the black striping is a decal. Pfft. But, the bike is very light and minimal, has a lot of interesting details, including small numbers on the instruments and white dials. It feels like the same riding position as my SBX, so its debateable whether one would want rearsets-I probably would for the track. Nice Ohlins all around, crazy front brake cable routing through the fork stay, bigger diameters bringing air in and exhaust out... The red seat pad already was filthy, so again, the color combo is suspect for me.
K1200R is a masterpiece in like fashion, its so ugly its gorgeous. Huge cannister is dying to be split into two smaller cans, (monster-like) and both bikes have the battery in places that can be serviced without tearing the whole bike apart. I feel the K bike wins the poser battle, but the S looks like the bigger smile for the sporting rider. The pillion on the S is just a lie that you can use to convince your wife that its a two up bike. Gonna go flitz some wire wheels in the garage. Cheers.

I liked the new S in the red/silver color but not enough to consider replacing my 99. Also the bike didn't feel any lighter than mine coming off the kickstand (which had a tiny little foot on it, guaranteed to poke through the first hot asphalt it comes in contact with. The new bike is not nearly as sexy looking as the original one.
