BMW Roundel Duped on Staintune purchase

Firstly, let me say what a great forum. I've been reading it for a few months and have found out heaps of great information!

Last year I purchased a R1100S and absolutely love it! I love the way it rides, the look of it...everything!

Anyway, the reason I'm posting is to find out if there is anyone that is looking to sell some secondhand Staintune slip-ons. It's ironic that I live only 30 minutes from the Staintune factory in Australia (it's in Mittagong and I'm in Wollongong - just south of Sydney) and I'm searching the world for a set of slip-ons.

At the end of last year I bought a set (so I thought) but was duped. I thought I had a great bargain - USD $250 for the slip -ons including postage to my door. I paid my money and couldn't wait to get them. That was back in November last year - it's now March and I still don't have them...and am thinking that I'll never get them!

After my many attempts to chase them up with the guy selling them (somewhere in St George Utah I think) I've fallen short. Both eBay and Paypal won't cover me because I'm outside the time period specified for logging disputes about sales (45 days or so I think).

So, as a long shot I thought I'd ask if anyone had some pipes going cheap.

BTW - feel free to spam the crap out of the guy that duped me - his name is Joey Bowman and his email address is joeped73@aol.com, his eBay tag is joeped73 - BEWARE OF HIM! If anyone is in the St George Utah area, give me a shout and you can go and kneecap him for me!

Thanks
Boxxer1100

Let the buyer beware, especially for what seems to be a bargain. Not that there aren't any to be had. International transactions are always shakey in my opinion...

It looks like you aren't the only one though. http://feedback.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewFeedback&userid=joeped73

Questions? Why is there no negative feedback from you? And why did you let it get out of the time period for any recourse? The rules are there for both sides of the transaction. And both parties should know their rights and exercise when necessary.

Because the seller gives you all the good ideas that he is going to send your stuff. Then you wait, being the nice guy, and then you email, and they get back to you but never really send.

I just went through this, and conveniently enough, they help you out after the 90-day feedback time-frame.

That is very ironic.

I imagine shipping costs were at least $100 USD?

There are some great deals on eBay, and most of the time it works fine. Personally, I would be reluctant to buy a large item to be shipped internationally.

I once sold a pair of boots to a guy in Australia, and it took months for them to arrive. But they finally did.

ckcarr - the transaction occured (due to my stupidity) outside of eBay - his auction had expired and I sent him a message asking if he still had the pipes - he did and we came to a deal (so I thought). The payment occured via Paypal and had coverage from Paypal for us to 45 days.

The problem with the Paypal 45 day period to lodge a dispute is that shipping via USPS can take up to 45 days to arrive - in some cases it has taken a full 10 weeks for goods to arrive in Australia from the US. Due to the fact that Paypal won't do anything else outside of the 45 day dispute period, I'm pretty much stuck!

I'm not sure if there is any recourse via eBay since the goods were actually advertised on there but I purchased outside of eBay. Does anybody know?

I contacted the other eBay member that had been duped and they gave me more information on the guy. They sent payment to the address of:

4952 El Cajon Blvd.
St. George, Utah 84770

So if anyone lives in the St George Utah area, can you give me a shout please.

The bottom line - it's a hard lesson learnt!

Maybe that address is a fake? I don't see that street in Mapquest or any property matches for an "El Cajon Blvd" in Washington County, Utah. And no Joey/Joe/Joseph Bowman property owners in Washington County, either. Be nice to ferret this POS out.

He's listed "SOCAL" as the location on his last 6 sales. Nothing currently listed.

HMM,

It appears that:

4952 EL CAJON BLVD.

is the adress of a BMW motorcycle dealer in San Diego CA.

BRATTIN MOTORS 4952 EL CAJON BLVD.
SAN DIEGO, CA 92115 (619) 286-1971

Coincidence?

I might call and ask for him just for laughs...

Just a few things left to sell.

I don't know much about Paypal, but isn't the payment ultimately made by a credit card (to Paypal)? If so, the credit card company may have a longer period to dispute a charge (I think 90 days for AMEX after you receive the statement).

Also, how does the other guy get paid? Can Paypal give you the bank account or whatever the payment is made to? IF so, I'd forward that information to the Attorney General of whatever state the bank is located in. This guy sounds like a con-man.
