The Wunderlich tail bag is very nice. It attaches using the cowl screws at the front of the bag, and two small straps at the back which go through the existing strap attachment points on the bike, so nothing touches the paint. EZ on and off. And the bag expands with a 2nd full-circumference zipper. A little pricey ($170), but the most elegant, OEM-looking solution I've found.
It also has a carry handle, and can be used as small backpack with the included straps. I believe that BMW Santa Cruz is the USA importer. I WILL be selling one, in brand new condition in the next week or so as I am selling my S. PM me if you're interested. The picture below is the bag in it's normal state. It expands up about 3-4 inches.

I've got the TourMaster Sport tailbag (and side bags) in black that I use on both my R11S, and 1200 Bandit. I think it looks pretty sharp on its own, and is roomy enough for laptops, documents, rain-gear, etc. Easy to put on/remove, and has a handle and attachable shoulder strap for easy carrying. Can't really beat the price, either ($59):
as pictured on Motorcycle-superstore

Ditto the Wunderlich, but I'd go with the Chicane for the money...
Here's an info thread: Tail Bags for 1100s???

As funny as it sounds check out the Arai helmet bag. It's huge has a carrying handle and straps down to the seat and I believe the straps convert it to a backpack, and it's 40.00. it is really a nice bag.
