Problem : changed battery and ABS light is now fixed

Hi everyone,

new to this board and the bike.

I bought it last fall and replaced my battery today after winter since the old one was dead.

When I start up the bike the ABS light is solid and the brakes are soft.

The speedometer moves when I rev the bike while standing still.

Didn't dare run it for too long and test more things.

Is there some reset that needs to be made after the battery has been dead for a while?

(I did search the forums and found nothing on the topic)

cheers,

Johan

did you ride it at all (low speed of course)? the abs warning light will flash until you get moving--should go off when you reach 5mph or so (that's the case on my '02 w/servo brakes). might want to try that.

Thanks for the reply!

Yes , I did try and drive a short stretch to see what would happen.

I remember it normally does that but in this case the ABS light is on solid. I.e. no blinking.

rgds,

Johan

Time to go to the dealership and have them reset it:(

I replaced my own battery today and tried it when all the bodywork was still of. Everything was fine and it started up with no abs fault. You could try disconnecting and reconecting again after 15 minutes or so or I've heard you could also pull a fuse(don't know witch one but someone around here must know) to get the same effect. If the problem is still not sorted then visit dealer for a reset or something. Hope you didn't short anything while placing the battery though. Also maybe check ground connection as it seems weird that the speedo is moving along with the rev.

Thanks all, I will drop by the dealer. Seems to be the best thing to do.

And I seriously hope I didn't fry anything :(

I did a bit more testing today and saw that all five fuses I could find where OK. But my rear and brake lights are out.
Checked the bulb and it was OK.

I did find some other other info on the net about the ABS acting up if the brake bulb was out but no details.
