I've broke it now

I have been having problems with the bike taking 3 or 4 tries to start. I have performed a basic tune up changed the battery, oil & filter, new spark plugs, and air filter. Tonight, I changed the fuel filter. As I was taking the tank off, I marked which gas lines went where so I could match them up on reinstall. Once the filter was changed out, and everything put back together, I tried starting the bike. To do this I turned the key on 4 times to prime the lines. It took a few tries to start. Once started it was running real rough and the engine was knocking. It would sputter, backfire and then stall. I started it again. To keep it running I had to turn the throttle to above 2000 RPM. It backfired again as I let off the gas then sputtered, backfired some more, and then finally stalled.

Here is the bad news. I'm suppose to take the bike on a 2400 mile trip in 6 days. Any help will be greatly appreciated!!

Double check the throttle cables at the TB adjustment knob. My bike did the same after I changed out the fuel filter.

Sounds like the accelerator cable on the right side is out of position. Easy to do when messing with the fuel lines.

In my best Foghorn Leghorn voice.

Well, I say, I say. That is some mighty fine advice.

That was it. The bike is now running great.

Now, if it would only start on the first try and not the 3rd or 4th. I will check the valve clearance today. If that doesn't help, I guess it is dealer time.
Thanks again for the help!!!

I hear a great joke to play on your Beemer buddies is to just pull the cable over the knurled knob and let it rest on top. Watch them freak out as their bike runs like crap.

words and music by Eric Idle

Some things in life are bad
They can really make you mad
Other things just make you swear and curse.
When you're chewing on life's gristle
Don't grumble, give a whistle
And this'll help things turn out for the best...

And...always look on the bright side of life...
Always look on the light side of life...

If life seems jolly rotten
There's something you've forgotten
And that's to laugh and smile and dance and sing.
When you're feeling in the dumps
Don't be silly chumps
Just purse your lips and whistle - that's the thing.

And...always look on the bright side of life...
Always look on the light side of life...

For life is quite absurd
And death's the final word
You must always face the curtain with a bow.
Forget about your sin - give the audience a grin
Enjoy it - it's your last chance anyhow.

So always look on the bright side of death
Just before you draw your terminal breath

Life's a piece of ****
When you look at it
Life's a laugh and death's a joke, it's true.
You'll see it's all a show
Keep 'em laughing as you go
Just remember that the last laugh is on you.

And always look on the bright side of life...
Always look on the right side of life...
(Come on guys, cheer up!)
Always look on the bright side of life...
Always look on the bright side of life...
(Worse things happen at sea, you know.)
Always look on the bright side of life...
(I mean - what have you got to lose?)
(You know, you come from nothing - you're going back to nothing.
What have you lost? Nothing!)
Always look on the right side of life...

Don't know if you disconnected the battery or not but if you did you gotta reset the throttle.....book tells you how. Don't know if it would affect the bike so bad though.
