Strangest Recall Ever? R12S Needs A Plug.
Fellow "soon to be" R12S lovers and owners.............the first recall has come thru and I simply don't ever recall one quite like it. When explained, the reasoning implyed visions of a really big set of keys (attached to the bike key), rattling in the wind or road vibration as the driver drives on.
BMW has noticed that IF, and this is a big if, keys or other objects attached to the bike key, some how slip down into the cuttaway slog of the top triple clamp...............they can lodge and lock the front end from movement resulting in mishap, or something like it. The first batch of bikes came without these but all from now on will have them. BMW send a high quality cast plastic plug that fills the void nicely and actually looks great. I was not aware of many people who carry small flashlites, pocketknifes, nailclippers, or housewhole keys on their S bike key ring...........but they must be out there. Unfortunally, the plug adds almost 6.5 grams of weight, however. Bummer. |

Just peel an 8g Roundel off. You'll be ahead of the game and faster and better at late braking.

Or better take a good schitt...;-)
The R1200S doesn't need a plug it needs a bigger tank and hard bags to make it a great sportbike fo the real world.Sorry couldn't help it...;-) Have fun in the georgia mountains terrorizing unsuspecting victims on Ducs and other inferiour japanese sport-hardware. And hopefully we can read the tales in the MOA magazine pretty soon...I'll mean it and look forward to it! Chris |

Chris,
Do you keep that stuff in your buffer or a special mouse key so you can just append it to every post Maybe you've developed an auto-paste function? ![]()

the R1200S should have been a natural successor to the R1100S, and they should have waited until an HP2 variant to have the uber-sport boxer without real-world/touring. i too wish the functionality captured in the R1100S wasnt amputated from the R1200S. but i am not b!tching about it either, just stating opins as we all do.
about this plug, are you sure it is not the pre-req. butt-plug so often mentioned? repoe3

No Roger I'm so yesterday tech, computer illiterate and old world that I have to do this manually...;-)
Chris PS:But the Dr. shouldn't worry about the 6,5 grams gained...A little "bio-tuning" is much healthier for heart and wallet than any exotic carbon fibre or titatium piece and then you really can afford and enjoy the added weight of a bigger tank and hardbags without any guilt...;-) |

repoe I'm not *****ing about it either I just give free advise if they actually plan to sell some units...Or they leave the S alone and fix the ST.(Frame/handling as good as the old/new S,underseat storage and better looking underseat exhaust.)The funky headlight is fine with me since it works well...Or they do nothing and I keep my S and spend my money on trips. No *****ing at all...;-)The HP version is really no issue.
The current bike is already light and powerful enough. What are the supposed to do? You can get only so many rpm's/hp from the current pushrod/rockerarm design and the current one feels already "cammy" enough. With the 140hp version you might get a little bigger kick the last 1000 rpm's but at what cost? The current one already feels kind of low on torque up to 6000 compared to the other boxers... They need to make two versions. One like the current one and one as a true successor for the R1100S sport-tourer. Chris |

as for what they are to do...what are they to do?!?!?!? ahem, they need not pump up the motor further, but have other hop-up parts as standard, yet make it an identifiable model from the regular bike...like they did for the HP2 versus a new R1200GS and what they do to differentiate a 330i from an M3. seems like they know the recipe, they just forgot some of the ingredients. repoe3

I have the plug too, looks great at only 3,5 grams, not 6,5 as the Dr. suggested. Well, mine is anyway but I have a \black special\ hehe
