Wow!! "a true 122bhp at the rear wheel"I like that dyno,it is definitely a glass half full type-a bit optimistic.110-112 would be about right.Plenty for me though, and I'm sure N8 will put those extra ponies to use when hunting

Don't believe anything you read from MCN, they make it all up down at the boozer. What's with comparing it to the old Duc and the detuned Suzuki ???? Is that the real market segment BMW are after or just some journo nonsense ?!!
At £9k plus £1555 for Ohlins,ABS and Heated Grips don't think they'll sell too many this season. Get ready for a price cut for next year. |

BMW itself hail it as a "character"-sport as a better bike than SV1000 and VTR1000 but not against Mille or 999...122hp at the wheel must be a misprint it has a true 110 while the old S had around 85+...
Ridden like it is meant to be ridden and after 80 miles the reserve light coming on,outch... Chris PS:I on't think with the ever weaker getting $ollar to see a price cut but maybe some options in the near future to turn this bike into the best sports-tourer;if they are smart.A hp version for a even smaller audience would be a waste because 110hp at the wheel and 480 lbs/220kg fully fueled keep thing pretty interesting for even the most jaded amongst us.Heck even the old S is still pretty interesting after all those years...;-) |

Hi,
I wondered about that 80 till reserve thing as well, I've done about 1200 miles on mine now, and when I go out for a spirited run, where I'm using 2,3,4th & 5 running it to about 8000 rpm I'm still manageing over 120 miles before the fuel thing goes on. Do you think he might have one of those funny rear diff options? I'd come to the opion that the R12 was actually slightly better on fuel than my R11, using the countdown and letting it get down to about 10 I'm seeing about 160 on the trip. Maybe the twats riding it like a two stroke. Adrian |

Adrian good to know that it gets good mileage but 120 miles + reserve is stillnothing to brag about. Here in the west if you really want to ride without worrying you need at least 150 miles + reserve riding like a twat between 6500 and 9000 rpm because below 6000 even the 1200GS pulls much better.Enjoy the new bike!

Hi,
Not convinced by the GS pulling bit, I reckon the R12S is fine up to 6000, having just got my R11S back, I felt it was a bit sluggish by comparison. Until we see those thrust diagram things you get in Bike magazine, I guess no one will know for sure. Adrian. PS I'd have put a small bet on my R11 being quicker off the mark than any GS model in standard trim, but then what do I know? |
