'But also mean people might be able to send your bike a worm virus '

bill, that's not nearly as farfetched as it sounds. any asic that can be upgraded by flashing the prom is suceptable to shenanagins like that. nokia got hit in europe by the first widespread cellphone virus not too long ago.

drive-by-wire and fly-by-wire are already vulernable to this.

and rolling-firmware updates are only an onstar-enable away.
'oops, hold that software update...I just checked and I confused the brake algorythm with the acceeration algorythm'..'wadda ya mean, it's already pused out to 800,000 vehicles'...'say, what was that big crash from the parking lot'.

evere hear about the moonprobe lander that crashed because one contractor used metric measurements and one used standard measurements and they never checked before they shot off the 'spensive rocket?...it happens:)

It seems to work just fine with my current crop of Battery Tenders through the accessory socket if I do the ignition key trick.

No pigtail required.

Maybe...

No, nevermind.

Thought you were tired?

Is it just me, or are things getting to complicated? I just put a new turn signal on my wife's 82 Ascot and the wiring was self evident. When I pull the plastic off my S I can't help but have the feeling of impending doom when I look at the tangle of wires. What is this "canbus" you speak of?

Public Transit for Canuks.... :)

Here is a brief history of Robert Bosch's CAN system and some other ways it is being used.

Do I need a different battery tender for the R12? This is the one I had for the R11.

Bobby, you're not going to sell batteries if you keep giving out these trade secrets. :D I had this Canbus plug problem with my R12RT. The pigtail is the least expensive solution to the problem as you have said.
There are other factors on batteries such as do you use distilled water to service it if it's a lead-acid battery or do you leave the bike out in extreme temperatures and how many accessories do you have on the system versus the output of the alternator. Do you have an anti-thieft system running. I believe that the BMW anti-thieft goes into low power consumption mode doesn't it?

JRR: Scientific American did an article long time ago about this very subject, listed LOTS of these types of errors. An airline flight crashed into a mountain in Antarctica because their Nav computer software was updated and the new revision used kilometers, not miles. But no one told the flight crew, so they entered the data in miles and the plane flew right into the mountain, killing everybody.

Software Quality Control is virtually impossible. Probably the ultimate oxymoron. CANbus is just one more step toward oblivion, and the main reason I won't buy an R12 (other than the fact that I need the cash to buy bread).

If your tender is compatible with an AGV battery, you can just remove the seat and connect the charger directly to the battery.

shreddr 11-11-2007 06:49 AM

how will i know that? will it be labeled on the tender?

ckcarr 11-11-2007 07:01 AM

That is the same exact Battery Tender I have. Just hook the pigtail up to the battery directly, don't bother with the accessory socket. Then just route it neatly down to the side of the frame.
