R1200S on track

Had a trackday last Wednesday. 4 hours of marshalling in 36 degrees celcius is nut funny but the bike did great. What a package and what a difference with the r11s.Much better handeling because of the lighter weight, superior Ohlins suspension and higher revving engine.

First time on the track with this one so I took it easy but managed an easy 240kmh on the straight (tops around 260). I also noticed it's much easier to keep up with the 'fast bikes' then with the r11s. I really wonder what will happen if I get rid of the dip between 5500 and 6500 rpm which is very obvious in 5th and 6th gear. In 2nd/3rd however this is a real rocket that easilly keeps op with 999's and the likes and lifts the frontwheel a lot.

Nice. Rumor I heard is BMW is going to be releaing a new map to get rid of the throttle lag. If true, should help things on the track as well.

I see that you don't have the lights & mirrors taped. Is that normal for the tracks you run? Do you need safety wire ?

Its because the dutch, being a sea-faring nation and having all those canals, aren't used to curves soi they dont ride very fast.

I haven't taped off my mirrors cause I'm marshalling here and have to keep an eye on the group behind me. If I race everthing is stripped!

I you ride the track: get a decent one piece race suit with lots of stretch. I 'm wearing a reV'it combi here that's great for the road but not for the track. I couldn't stick my knee out far enough for a knee-down so I had great trouble finding my limit. Consequently I took it easy (had too anyway casue of the heat) but did get a very positive impression of the r12s as a track bike.

If you realy wanna go all out have a custom made suit by the guys of MJK. Nice all black one to go with the bike. Dutch motormagazine had a test of the R1200S in the latest issue and the guy doing the dyno runs couldn't believe how lean the engine was running even for a BMW. Nice looking pics Rob with the bike in action. If you wanna shave a little weight loose the large hero blobs from your pegs.
