Fairing Quick Release
This the first time I need to take the fairing off and I'm not quite sure how the quick release on top disengages after it is flipped up. I don't want to break it or any other wacky connector which may be holding the left fairing on other then the screws which I have already removed. Does anyone have the basic 1,2,3 instructions for removal?
Oh, by the way, the reason for the fairing needed to come off is because I think I've blown the fuse for the brake light(not the parking light). I was installing the Hyperlite LED's into my tail light. After installation I tested the brake lights and the Hyperlites worked fine. I then cut the green (per manufactures instruction to turn off continuous flashing) and the next time I tested I got no brake light(parking still works) and some instrument lights are out as well. Also, while the hood is up, what else could I be doing on the bike? |

just pull it gently. you may want to splash it with soapy water, to get it to release earlier. this part does have a slight tendency to break.

flip the release up, and pull the fairing up... carefully, but with some force.
make sure you've got all the screws removed, even the hidden ones |

If I'm not mistaken, I believe the '02 and newer models with ABS have the extremely sensitive to voltage electrical systems. My suggestion would be to put it back to stock and see if that solves the problem. If so, you need a brake light that's designed for your bike.

The removal order's important. The release is part of the right side, so after it's up, wiggle both up a bit to clear the grooves and gently slide out the left side first, disconnecting the plug of each indicator as you go. Reverse the order for reinstall. As noted, be aware of the two screws behind the roundels. I fashioned a shortened hex key for such tight spaces.
As an aside, I find the top of an egg carton helpful for keeping track of screws and easily recalling where they go. Cheers,

Bodywork has been off for a week, (battery replacement). I'd have sworn the left side came off first (sitting on bike).

XK49,
You don't have to remove the plastic bodywork to access the fuse box.... Twist the fuse box 1/8 turn counterclockwise, and it comes off the frame... There is enough lead wire to pull it out where you can inspect/replace fuses. When done put it back in the hole and turn clockwise to reattach.

I've popped and replaced fuses with the fuse box mounted in place. It's tricky, but I've got small, but not tiny hands.

Thanks for all the advice. After getting the fairing off, the fuse box was easy to access and it was a blown 4amp fuse for the brake light. All is good. I'll attempt changing fuses next time without removing the fairing, but now I have a birds eye view of what I'll be dealing with as I try to reach my fat hands under/over? the body work.
