on the way back home, we stopped for some gas and a snack, and ran into this guy Jeremy smith:

the cowl is now out of my hands!
Cheers,

Maybe it was a bad weiner that got the Buddha. The Sanskrit text that describes the last meal Gautama had - after which he got very sick and died - describes the main course offering using a compound noun that has at it's root the word for pig. Some, such as the late Prof. Roy Weiler, suggest that the noun does not so much describe a pork dish as something which is "of' or "by" or "via" the pig. That area of India where the historical Buddha died does have truffle like mushrooms which are rooted up by pigs.

Was it a weiner or was the Buddha doing 'shrooms? God only knows.

Last Monday, I headed up to Chicago after work to pass the cowl to Jared (senor ding dong). A great day for a ride – especially to Chicago,

First stop – Buckingham Fountain

Got to see a bum try to swipe an Indian guy’s bag. Very funny exchange, I need to get a video camera.

Looking back to the city from the fountain. That’s Sears Tower on the left.

One of the animated waterfalls at Millennium Park. There are a bunch of faces and other images that they put up. There were tons of people, so the cowl stayed in the backpack for safekeeping.

I wanted to get a pick of the cowl with the big polished stainless steel bean, but they had that section closed off

Jared at Chicago BMW

It was a great ride, just over a couple hundred miles. I’m sure Shannon would’ve loved the full-moon lit 100 mph+ blast down Lake Shore Drive on my way home.

Picked up the cowl from Jeremy Smith on Monday.

Cowl on the old bike at Chicago BMW.

Cowl on the new bike.

Then off to dinner at Hooters (where else). Of course I go there for the wings.

The cowl is now WEST of the Mississippi River!

About 10:30AM, at the Illinois Visitor Center, top of the hill. You can see the bridge for Interstate 80 over the Mississippi River, Iowa in the background, and a barge with a "tow" going up-river (they push the barges, but call it a tow: a Midwest thing, I think). Looking NW.

Then met up with Senor Ding Dong of Chicagoland area on his K1200S (S for Sweet, methinks) right at noon. Younger hand handing off to older hand. Tom Selleck eat your heart out!

The bikes involved:

And OBSSSN waiting to take up the next part of the route. My girl came along, and helped with the photos. Thanks, Allyson!

Took the cowl for a trip around the north shore suburbs of Chicago. This is the Bahai Temple in Wilmette.

Sadly, this is the twistiest road in the Chicago area.

No trip up the north shore would be complete without a visit to Michael Jordan's place.

Or to the local Aston Martin/Ferrari dealer. The number is 007 of course.

Although some say red is faster.

Now to the city. The Hancock building viewed from Lincoln Park Zoo.

The north shore view of the city skyline. The tall, white building in front of the Hancock building used to be the Playboy building.

Cloud Gate in Millenium Park most commonly referred to as the Jelly Bean.

Self portrait with the cowl you cn also see the Frank Gehry designed amphitheater in the background.

Elwood: ...the honorable Richard J. Daley Plaza.
Jake: That's where they got that Picasso, right?
Elwood: Yep.

Finally the Chicago skyline viewed from the south.

The cowl is now in the capable hands of Moybin. Good luck to all who have yet to carry the cowl.

Thanks for all those great pics & thanks for moving the cowl along in its journey. Seeing Chicago stirs up a lot of memories for me. It's my favorite American city. In another life I spent mucho time in Chicago. "My kind of town, Chicago is..."

I've alwqays been impressed with how BIG Chicago really is. From the air it looks like it goes on forever.

'it's 108 miles to Chicago. We've got a pack of cigarettes, half a tank of gas, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses.
'hit it'

SO. I think I am next up. It is not going to MN if I am seeing correctly on my email.

I would like to get it through Nebraska next week if possible. (because no motorcyclist in their right mind spends longer than they have to in NEBRASKA!)

I have sent an email to Maoybin and will hopefully get the cowl this Sat.

Next week I could take it to Western Nebraska.....If someone will brave the boring ride through Eastern CO to meet me half way to Denver.

Can't wait to help out!

So does anyone know what the route for the cowl will be once it has been placed in ckcarr's capable hands? Is it headed directly to the rainy NW or is it headed toward Vegas at all? I would be interested in helping out if it needs to hitch a ride on the southern route.....but only if it helps out the cause and does not slow progress....you know how things could come to a grinding halt at a craps table or a local strip club....
