Add-on adjustable ECM unit for BMW

New on the market and they list the R1200GS as a bike which can be modified (so the S should also be possible):
http://www.rapid-gb.co.uk/index.php
"In other words it will allow fuel, ignition and limiter adjustment to your bike, allowing your bike perform to it’s optimum as standard or modified and increases it’s overall BHP... "

BTW I also found this one:
http://gs-fun-factory.homepage.t-online.de/R1200S%20Powerbox.PDF?foo=0.4482920113229189
Bike has a SR exhaust and Powercom (similar to Powercommander but much simpler and therefor cheaper:199 euro's)
Result: 127hp(+4%) and 124Nm(+11%!!)...at 6000rpm the torque goes up from 110 to 120Nm (more torque between 5000 and 7000rpm)

Is this meant for a stock BMW?...can't see it for something that doesn't have bigger valves, lumpier cams, bigger pistons, etc.

HugoVW 08-18-2006 09:41 AM

Yep, for a standard BMW; off course also for a modified one...(the German one that is...)

Thanks Hugo!

I've been trying to figure out what to use on the R1200S. Power Commader has nothing, well they have something that Doesn't use the lambda sensors, which I do not want to do. I've sent an email to the Rapid people just now. Hopefully I will find out something soon!

I was looking at this system: www.motec.com which is what Nastycar and the Rolex guys use. VERY VERY Expensive:(

motec is very expensive; it's also the gold standard by which all others are judged...and totally adjustable and you can plug in your OEM sensors and tell the CPU the baseline default values.
I've already figured out which one will work on an 11S, and yes, that one is $3K USD.
serious parts for serious people.

BMWIVAN 08-18-2006 10:44 AM

JonyRR - that is just about the price I was told, which is much less than what I have been told Yoshimura Suzuki claims their Motec cost. It's really not a bad price for what you get. The complexity, while good, does seem a bit overwhelming though. I've talked with Motec and they can help with inital set-up to take some of the guesswork out of it.

JonyRR 08-18-2006 10:54 AM

Ivan, buddy.
these might seem overwhelming initially, but break it down into digestable bites and it's not bad.
it's a question of application. for a streetbike that has other parameters to contend with, like the EPA gestapo, BMW-K is good as joe stupid can't tune it to a standstill very easily.
with the real McCoy, you get total, easy adjustability of all the parameters you can't fool with and you don't have to f**k with add-on boxes getting to fistfights with the stock cpu.
there's areason all the big boys run these as oppoese to a stock cpu with a piggyback box.
I have an 11S with a PCIII and I do wish I had stepped up to the real deal, as I want multiple maps on the fly for my brand of insanity (nitrous)
I usta do all the local club endurance races on teh west coast back in the '80's. I miss, and still love, endurance racing.
the R1200S is already, and will much more, kick some serious ass:)
and with a motec, without an 02 sensor, you can run some *interesting* fuel. Fuel that gets you 25% more power than pump gas...+30HP from fuel is a LOT:)

BMWIVAN 08-18-2006 11:16 AM

JonyRR

Multiple maps is very cool, especially for things like rain races, or tracks where you are WFO all the time.

What is your *interesting* fuel of choice? U4, Nitro-Methanol?

What bike/club did you endurance race with?

JonyRR 08-18-2006 11:46 AM

this is the sthuff rahhht heah:)

and WMRRA, OMRRA, AFM and some AMA circa Human Race Team days..

BMWIVAN 08-18-2006 12:02 PM

NICE!

JonyRR 08-18-2006 12:27 PM

yep! A load o' that suff will wake y'all right on up in the morning..
8 OZ per gallon of 100 octane VP...and a fuel map tailored for it and I predict a +20HP increase over and above anything else you'll get.
motorsikkle guys for some reason don't 'speriment very much in this arena, but I can tell ya from personal experience it's the real deal. having EFI and tha ability to change and test maps is a huge plus VS setting carbs.
