drilling exhaust?

I have a 2003 BCP and a question. On my R1100R, I drilled the stock exhaust for more flow, installed a Techlusion and Induct with great results. Noise increase was minimal. Has anyone experimented like this with an S? Or, is a $1,000+ aftermarket exhaust mandatory? Weight isn't an issue to me. I've read that the stock exhaust flows well and performance gains from aftermarket exhausts are minimal.

...lot's of feedback on the way...so how exactly did you drill your exhaust?
...one advantage of an aftermarket exhaust is loss of weight (cat) but also overall less backpressure and a couple extra ponies.

I think you'd have trouble drilling the stock cans. Way back several years ago one of the guys on this forum showed them torn apart and you would not believe how circuitous the route from pipe to air was....lots of angled pipes and parts snaking this way and that; nothing to put a drill bit perpendicular to. I thought the only way I could cut it was with a milling bit. I doubt if you'd gain anything by doing it anyway. I took the halfway solution and kept the stock cans with a Laser cat elim pipe. A bit more sound, but still pretty quiet and way lighter.

...good point, when my bike was new, my buddy got his too.
he install the cat-e-pipe and the diff was very seat-of-the-drawers noticable...i think the cat is the culprit...

The stock Muffler Assy is also a boat anchor...up high and near the back is an awful place for that kind of "road hugging" weight...but yes the aftermarket solutions are pricey.

On the othe hand I got the ZTechnik System for ~$850 shipped to my door from Tag Motor Sport. They have a close relationship with ZTechnik and were able to get it shipped directly from ZTechnik in a few days. The new system weighs ~half as much.

Rather than use a drill to lighten the muffler(s), just use a #2 Crapsman Phillips screwdriver, a BFH, and bang it in there like Swiss Cheese ( known in das Schweizer as Emmentaler [amhik]) and it will be both a little lighter ( some of the metal you knock off will auspuf out the back end eventually ), and you'll have that unique sound 'o power that no one else will understand.

You'll be out 0 bucks, and have plenty left over to buy Oil, Fuel additives, and other junk we Bored Members would love to sell you.
