Poor Man's Air Snorkel Modification...

I've been awed and impressed by Lennies InDuct but have been too cheap to buy one...sorry Lennie.

On the other hand, being a descendant of Mid-West Rednecks, I figured I could make due with a little bit of resourcefulness and not much money.

After some careful examination of the stock Duct, I noted that there's a pinched area where it snakes around the rear left corner of the Battery. I decided that eliminating that pinched area would/could help airflow but how to do it?

I bought a short 2" piece of 1" O.D. Copper Pipe from the local Hardware Store. I cut away the Pinched area using a hot Exacto Knife and placed the Copper Section in it's place. I had to dent the Pipe slightly to keep it from laying against the Battery...easy does it. I then sealed it in place using Goop Household Sealant.

I haven't ridden it yet and have no plans to dyno test...I'm only assuming that eliminating the Pinched area will help.

Here's a few pics:

Might (or might not) work. Airflow mods are tricky - what looks like it would help might hurt. Without a flow bench, it's a shot in the dark.

If you get a big-enough cross-section all the way from the front to the back, even ripples are better than restriction.
r111;
See the thread 'uberschnorkel' for MY redneck shadetree mod....I'm as cheap (or cheaper) than you
Soon to come, as I'm doing it now and taking pictures, is uberschnorkel pt deux, wheren I move the whole battery box assembly forward and down to get the REAL restriction eliminated...the elbow at the filter side.
stay tuned,...there's free horsepower here.
