OT: Honda RS125 GP

A friend in Montreal has offered to loan me his bike for a track day at Calabogie's new track next week, says it's ready to go except it needs new slicks and race gas. He says it's perfect for the awseome sweepers there .. guess you don't want to slow down too much once you get up to speed

I'm wondering what you guys think ... I'm 6'1" and 225 without gear

2 strokes are wicked fun... even a 125 will make you grin. I tune a 500 gamma for a friend of mine...

He used to have a legal plate on it, till Arkansas DMV got computers... Then they realized it was Canadian...and not U.S. Legal...

...different riding though... there is no low end grunt... you need to keep this thing on the upper RPM limits or you have:

A) Virtually no usable power and
B) constantly fouled plugs

Other than that, my buddy used to have a 250 NCR, that thing was brutal... he somehow managed to get that thing street legal... WOAH, Nellie!

I guess it's waaay worse than the 600's at my last track school, rev wise ... pin it and go for it. He says it weighs about 100 lbs and I'll hit 130 mph on the straight ... must be strange at first

Do it...and report back.
'Would like to hear about it.
Is this a standard RS125 GP w/an airbox, etc.?
How much power does it make?
6 or 7 sp?
.
My '00 Cagiva Mito 125EV makes 31 hp on a good day - stock pipe/airbox.
She runs good, but I'm running ~20 lbs. of redundant flesh, so that's next on the list.
.
Never mind your ht./wt., just do it - keep her on the boil 'n row that box.
.
I've always like small bikes.
.
Edit: Just saw your posts ... Good for you - report back.

100 lbs.?

That Gamma is nice, even more fun than my old RZ350 was. A friend just sold an NSR400 triple to someone who was taking it back to the states ... incognito it suppose.

Don, not sure about the 'airbox'? ... he says it's a stock HRC bike. I'll ask about the hp .. you think it's only 6 or 7 ... and yours has 31 ... sheesh that's a big difference! Maybe 100 lbs is a bit optomistic ... like when I tell someone my weight.

I'll do it and let you know.

No, no...
6 or 7 speed gearbox, not hp.
.
RZ350...I regret the day I sold my stock '85 Yel/Blk KR.
Less than 3,000 miles - showroom specimen. Sheese!

Suz. Gamma 500 - an arrow shot from God's own crossbow.
Now/then I ride a friend's Yam. RZ500 - I think it weighs close to 90 lbs. more than that Gamma.

The friend who sold the NSR sold a yellow and black KR last year too, both nice bikes. He offered them to me but .....

have fun with that thing.
I owned many RD350's and older TZ's up to a '95 TZ250, which was a much more sophisticated beast.
it will take 100 octane leaded, minimum, depending on how tightly it's jetted and timed.
let him mix the gas for you, I'm sure he has it dialled for a specific combination.
BTW, the powerband should be from appx. 10,500-11,200
below 9500 it's a total dog and you WILL learn to slip the clutch like it was meant to, at 6'+ and over 200LBS...but ridden correctly, it should embarrass much bigger bikes. ye-haw!

RS 125

I'm wondering if you can actually fit on a bike that small. Have you tried it for size?

I haven't tried it on yet .... I'm actually a bit leery about it.

I'm wondering if learning a whole new track plus learning a totally different kind of bike will be too distracting.

Ride it like its a chainsaw...full...or near full throttle. It will be scary fast, no matter how big you are. Everyone should have a two-smoke to beat up on...I too have had an RD350 or two..yikes!

If you've never ridden anything like it before it's gonna be like going into an alternate universe where all the physical laws are different.
but remember, a device like this is what Rossi, Pedrosa, Capirossi, et al learned on. It will teach you precision-of-line, control-of-weight transfer. Scoots like this are still close to my heart as I grew up on them.
Two-Strokes Forever!!!

Nah...
At 225 lbs., plus another 15+ lbs. for gear, your weight will attenuate a good % of any power surge that that little 125 will make. I'd guess that mostly you'll marvel at its cornering speed, the ease of flicking it about, and its braking.
Have fun.
