Buzzard Crest Bash

So this weekend I rode down to the Catskills. Its a small event of people just camping out for the weekend on the hosts land and going for day rides and having a big cookout Saturday night.
Friday I took off around 10am and heading toward Manchester VT.
Here is a view along the Battenkill River on Rt 313 in NY

I wonder if I should stop by Max's BMW and get a new tires first? Nah it will be fine.

I continued through Manchester and took Rt 30 south past some of the ski areas. Here is Rt 30 with Stratton Mtn in the background

Rt 30 & Rt 100 close to Jamaca VT

After cruising south on 100 past all the ski areas to Wilmington I decided to head toward Mnt Greylock in North Adams MA. I have never gone up that. Its the highest peak in MA I believe.

On VT Rt 8

Mnt Greylock coming into view

Crossing the VT-MA border. Thats my ghetto HelenTwoWheels duffel made out of a WWII duffel bag with dog lease loops sewn on. It works.

The view driving up Mnt Greylock

Geez. Looking at some of those pictures I was thinking that I need to get a 4-piece 4 weight fly rod and head up there. Beautiful. Maybe Autumn really is the best time of year to ride. Thanks for the pics.

BTW, don't worry about the duffel bag. For some of us, it's just Old School.

Continued

I finally made it to the top

Thats me in the parking area. Thats a small shelter for the hikers
in hte background

There is a monument on the top for veterans of MA. I was starting to get hungry by this point as it was now after 1 pm.

There is also a lodge up with with a fireplace and a place for people to take a break and rest

The view from the lodge

Hurray there is a small eatery in there!! I'm starving!

Requisite food shot. After lunch its time to shove off for the Catskills.

I was the first to arrive to I got the pick of the camping spots

The hosts cooked some chili and rice with bread for dinner. Lots of beer to go around. There was also a fire going.
Cool garage with a nice collection. Left to right a V-Strom, a Guzzi, BMW R1100R, an R100, a Suzuki SV650, and last but certainly not least a very cool BMW LS.

A really well restored R90 that is for sale

Continued....

A forget the model of this bike but it came with an LS front end, and a GS rear section from BMW so a lot of GS accessories fit. Hence the hard panniers.

Brrrr it was cold Friday night. It went into the 30s. Ice on the bike.

Oh good someone else already started the fire

Some of the crew chilling out before breakfast

Everyone decided to meet up at a diner down the road. My buddy and I needed to get gas. I was driving down the dirt road and the bike felt very twitchy. I got to pull out onto the road and the bike slid all over.
Doh! I know I should have stopped by Max's. Time to get out the tire repair kit

Turns out I picked up a nail. I think it was going down on Friday actually I remember the handling getting squirrely a couple time

Preparing the hole for the tire plug. After that was taken care of I gave Max's a shout to see if they could do a rear tire for me in the afternoon. It was already noon and I was a good 1.5 hours away. They said no problem!! I ended up getting front and rear done while there. I went with Metzler Z6. I need to get more than 4.5K out of a rear.

I took Rt 66 north to Max's. What a ride. It was fantstic out. By te time we got back it was almost 5pm and more people had arrived.

This dog rode between its owners on this Buell Ulysses

The infamous apple pie box oven. Dig a hole, put charcoal in, line box with tin foil, put tin foil lid on make shift oven.

The pies cooking in the oven

Lets see, BBQ chicken, smoked roast pork, baked potatoes, salad, stewed veggies, apple pies

and cake!

and Ice cream. Are we really camping?

The rest of the night people ate, sat around the fire, the host busted out his guitar and played for everyone. It was a good time with lots of beer, wine, and food. It got very cold again that night. You could hear the coyotes in the woods chasing something that night.

After breakfast I packed all my stuff up and heading up Rt 66 toward home. I made a couple stops along the way.

The S pointed home finally

I finally made it home safe and sound after a very eventful weekend. A nice relaxing mileage over 3 days. I couldn't have asked for better weather. Over 1000 miles in the last week, thats a lot for me.

If you feel like see all the photos. Click here

I juse gave an over view. Sorry for the long post.

I love riding in Autumn. Yeah I had that duffel hanging around and I needed something to hold my tent, sleeping pad, and chair. When I strapped it down it slid around too much so I sewed on two strips from an old dog leash. It works pretty good and that thing is heavy duty.

I must admit that was some great riding on Friday with very little traffic. I am pretty sure Molly had all her claws intact. I think they would tether her with a small harness to the passenger.
