2007 is shaping up to have lots of neat options...

in the world of two-wheeled machines...

this one really sparked my interest...

based on that pic, do you think its carb'd or FI?

between bmw's offerings, ktm's, ducati's, guzzi's...wow...now of only they make it onto the US shores.

and nevermind the new R1 or GSXR...holy smokes between selectable maps and traction control vs. variable height velocity stacks. primo moto, for sure.

KTM: http://www.motorcycledaily.com/10october06_690sm.htm
"The fuel-injected ~690cc single is claimed to produce 63hp, making it one of the most powerful singles ever produced. Power is transferred via an all-new, six-speed transmission, and considering that the supermoto-style chassis is carrying only a (claimed dry weight) 335lbs, the 690SM should be quite quick, especially for its class."

I likes that Kaytoom:)
neato urban commando machine. I could run from the heat on that thing...not that I ever would, mindja, but I could....
'over the river and thru the woods, fleeing 5-0 as I go'
'I shift thru the gears with nary a fear'
'as the bears have no 4-low'

well speaking of bikes on my short list for 08:

ducati hypermotard
triumph tiger
moto guzzi griso
ktm supermoto 950 r
ktm 690sm
husky 510SMR
husky 610SM

mind you for the 08 trip, i plan to purchase in the west or PNW and ride it home over the course of 8-10 days. so the smaller bikes are not ideal for that, IMO...the 690, is right on the cusp of what i would want to ride cross country

There will also be a new KTM Duke with under engine exhaust; uses the same new 690 engine...

JonyRR 10-11-2006 12:30 PM

you COULD ride an MB5 from cost to coast. It's been done. the Kaytoom seems to be the new hot schisa...with a 6-speed 'n all. I'll betcha it'll do the ton. it sure looks neat. I was leaning towards the 'prilla 450 Vtwin but I don't know about their reliability record.
Of course, with an R259-series oilhead, 'reliability record' is, *ahem*...relative, shall we say.
I used to think german stuff never broke and eye-talian stuff broke constantly, but the recent BMW reliability indice is kinda dicey.
maybe I need to trade my 911 for a 308 ferrari.

repoe3 10-11-2006 12:40 PM

the 690 would do the ton waaaaay easy. heck the husky 610SM (which is really under 600cc) easily does the ton even in stock gearing. doing a few thou to break in a new bike seems liek the best way to get to know it, and do it right. when i picked up the tuono, that was in OH, the next day rode 725 miles to get home to VA. talk about a great ride.

man, aside from getting married next year, cant wait for 08 ;)

'man, aside from getting married next year, cant wait for 08'

hahahahahaha....you just THINK you're getting a new scoot.

What you are ACTUALLY buying is a new dishwasher, a new stove, a minivan and picking out a double crib for the twins you don't know you're siring very soon.

I just moved downstairs into my recroom/shop. I let the wimmenfolk have the entire upstairs, and I 'sacrificed' to get the whole lower level of my house, complete with separate entrance. My wife said I'm now a 'batchleor with benefits'...it only took me until 49 to pull it off.

holy cow...if this doesnt sell you on the bike...well, is there a pulse?

...careful, you'll cut your finger on that KTM...

ckcarr 10-11-2006 06:36 PM

Those mufflers are impressive too!

wswartzwel 10-11-2006 07:46 PM

Couldn't hear them...

John Lyon 10-11-2006 08:30 PM

I like the Ducati too, but wouldn't that be a monoposto? From what I've seen, unless you're quite tall, you'll be in the jockey position on one of those, however. For long-distance use, the GT might be more comfortable and wouldn't t look too bad if you revise the handlebars and put on some bar-end mirrors.

John Lyon 10-11-2006 08:37 PM

Oh wait, Ducati already did it - modified GT for 2007 (biposto):

Actually it looks like one would be riding one of the 'Spy vs Spy' ( MAD Magazine ) characters - all pointy, or like the Boss might ride in the cartoon ( another! ) Dilbert...

you know, its funny how some like angular, some like curvy...i like them both, if the design works. and boy does it on the 690 supermoto...the look of a bike should convey what it is capable of. this one looks to be a lean mean slicing machine :D
