BMW "Order Bank"?

Got this today from the dealer I am purchasing my R1200S through: "Your bike is in the order bank. Looks like production will start in Munich, in January 2007"....

Anyone who has ordered a bike care to share the steps from this point on?

Damn Spring seems a long ways off! Thanks..Phil::

Keep calling the dealer. The production date on the bike I tried to order (K1200S,now sold) kept being moved back. I ended up getting one from available stock Stateside. I had ordered this last Oct. and the last date I received was March/April.

BMW of Las Vegas has a black, yellow, and red & silver and all are loaded. It might be a great vacation and you could pick up the bike.

Thanks mheck5..but I have ordered my bike...my question still remains; do you normally get the bike you order through a BMW dealer? What has been the experience of those that have ordered? I hope MaineRoads experience is not the norm...I honestly believed BMW was a professionally run outfit...hope I am right!

Phil... Have had experience ordering two bikes from the dealer. In each case it took about eight weeks for dealer delivery.

After the order, then there is the production, then there is the boat ride across the Atlantic, then there is customs in NY/NJ, then there is transport to your dealer.

It's really up to the dealer to manage and monitor the status and the dealer has total control in 99% of the circumstances in being able to deliver the bike as promised. A VIN# doesnt get issued until the bike is slated for production. At that point it's 99.9% certain that the only way to screw that delivery of that bike to you is dealer competance. I have heard of stories on guys who made pre-paid discount deals on Adventures and the dealer selling the slated unit to others at a better profit, but have only heard that in 2 unique scenarios with no verification from the dealer(none of my business anyway), so it very well could be a mistake on the internet posting individual.

However I do have that same bike sitting in my inventory minus air pressure monitor if the wait is killing you!! hehe

Thanks...Bobby..believe me I would consider a road trip to and from Atlanta (2,000 + miles each way) but I have committed to my local BMW shop and I will stick to it...your insights do however help quell the worry! Thanks..

mac's is supposed to be a very reputable dealer and nice folks.
Ordering new and waiting is too hoity-toity for me. I usually wait and pick up a good used low-mileage example of whatever is going to get raped in the jony-shop....that way I don't have as much remorse when I start modifying
