Shims for the ring and pinion

Hi all,
I was looking at the gears this week and started wondering about BMW's tendancy to use parts from different machines to make new ones.

So here is the question:
Can the shims we use to adjust the ring and pinion be crossreferenced to a car,(say the 2002 or the Mini cooper or the 318)?
thanks
jeff

Jeff, have any part numbers to start with?

I have the disks for bikes and cars, maybe a cross-reference is possible.

Doing this yourself? Let me know, I think I have the necessary tools.

Anything's possible, but just because of dimensions and capacities, it's unlikely.

Tony,
if I did it it would leak whine and grind.
Better left to experts IMO.

Roger,
it just makes me wonder

The Ignition Key in my '84 318i is the same Key (different cut) as on my '99 R1100S.
