Painted wheels

I am thinking of painting my 2003 BCR wheels white, the blue makes the wheels just seems too dark and there is too much of it, or maybe paint the rim white and leave the spokes blue, but there is no obvious cutoff so it would probably have to be a fade. any experience or pics of some "wheel jobs"?

check your yellow pages for powder coaters, its not as expensive as people seem to think, and alot more durable...

WAY WAY more durable. And you can get multiple colors done, too.

I've seen painted rims. They pock out within the first 500 miles. In 5K miles, they look awful. Powdercoating will pay for itself in that respect.

Also, it's semi-sacriledge to kill the factory blue powdercoat when so many silver ones can be found. Maybe someone would pay for shipping for the swapping of a set. Or maybe you could score one of the white rims from the later BCR wheels that had one white rim.

I like the idea of a custom scheme, though. I have liked the subtle additions of something like a polished lip of 1" on each side of the rim on some bikes. It's a lot of work to mask, beadblast, then polish the edge strips, but it looks super sharp. Against the dark blue, that would be totally sweet if done cleanly. Or don't polish and just do something simple like white stripes at the outside 3/4". I've seen a lot of things done to VFRs and Hawk GTs with the SSSA wheels showing off. Some good, some bad. Photoshop is our friend.

Another note of interest: White rims = impossible to keep really clean and looking nice.

...after my day was cut short by a nail, I found out that you can actually use the non-ABS wheel (rear) on an ABS bike... you just can't use the ABS ring... but, ening that I have performed ABSectomy a few weeks ago, I don't care to much!
