I'm back!!
Hey guys!
Some of you might remember me, as I've had 3 R11S's in the past, loved them, and I was active on the board. Well, I'm excited to say that I've always loved the boxers, and I just finalized a deal trading my '05 K1200S for a new R12S, black, w/Ohlins, wide rear, and seat cowl. The bike is being ordered today by Gulf Coast BMW in Ft. Myers. GREAT people to work with. Bike should be here in about 7 days. Interestingly, I had ridden both a standard R12S as well as an Ohlins bike, and came away from both rides a bit disappointed. The motor didn't feel as responsive as I thought it should, the seat height was TALL, and the turn in had a "falling in" feeling. But it kept nagging at me, so I decided to try, one final time, another, different R12S with Ohlins. BUT, this time, I decided to set up the bike to my liking, e.g., lower tire pressures (34/34), and MUCH LESS rear preload. WOW! Major difference in feel. And, for whatever reason, this particular bike felt noticeably more responsive. Perhaps upgraded software? So, it's good to back on a Boxer S, and hang out here again. Oh wait!!! I screwed up!! This bike is no good. I wanted to do some traveling and this bike doesn't have bags, adjustable bars, a comfortable seat, tools, it's ugly, it's not nearly as good as the old R11S...............BWAHAHHHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!

Congrats on your fine purchasing decision.
It interesting that you didn't get wowed by your first ride - I didn't either. The demo bike was one they got in early June. It seemed a bit buzzy, aneamic and poped on compression braking. I rode it again after it had it's 600 mile service. A little better, but still the vibs were there. This being my sixth boxer I knew what it should be and was into the deal 100% on handling & 80% on performance. I took delivery the last day in September and the first thing the salesman noticed was the difference in the motors performance. It ran much smoother than the demo bike & the poping undercompression is gone. I couldn'tbe happier. The injection mappingis the new updated version and a definite improvment. I also changed the preload by shorting it 20mm and that is the trick. The bikes come pre-set by the factory fairly stiff. One month later and 2000 miles and I'm all smiles. Hang in there, it's going to be a long seven days . . . but worth the wait. |

No ****. It already feels like 2 months. BTW, a couple of questions: 1. What's the alternative rear drive ratio that seems to come with the Ohlins bikes? Not the 2.75? 2. I want to know, I NEED to know what this bike tops out at. I know some of you guys have done it in the interest of science. I'm guessing an indicated 155-160. Thanks.
