Just Placed an Order: R1200S

Well I done did it...put down a deposit and placed an order for June 1 delivery for a R1200S...logic is that cold, serious cold, has set in here until May so riding is out and any BMW "upgrades" will be on my bike as delivered..I hope. Got Ohlin suspension, heated grips, computer, tire pressure monitor and ABS on a "Titan Silver Metallic/Magma Red" bike. Oh yes, standard final drive ratio is 2.75:1. Damn it feels good! Now to start planning extra goodies!

Thanks for all the advice and enduring my endless questions (I am sure more to follow) from all of you.

I used to think otherwise, but now I'm certain that the 2.62 is the standard ratio. But I also think you get what they give you; no option. Either way, the ratios are more the same than different.

If more options become available along the way, or if you change your mind about anything, the order is changeable.

Phil, good choice. Maybe we can hook up for a ride next summer when we head out to Coeur o' Alene Idaho. Congradulations!

Ron- maybe your bike had the "alternative rear axle" as most/all of the early ones arriving here did?

Congrats, we have the exact same bike minus the air pressure monitoring system sitting here on the floor, too bad you're not a little closer

Final drive ratios

FYI - The final drive ratios are stamped on the bottom of the final drive housings. It will read something like: 31/11 which would be a 2.82 ratio. Check it out...

;)

...What? No heated seat?...

I asked Lane Swall, General Manager, Sierra BMW about the
" item #585 Alternative Rear Axle (no charge)" and he said..."I would guess it is a final drive that is unique to the R1200S, as every S comes with this option. "

So where's that leave us?

Thanks all! Roloo I would love a tinted windscreen...but could not get any info out of BMW, can you fill me in? Also spec sheet sent to me by dealer lists 2.75 as standard..we shall see..what are the new R1200Ss actually being delivered with?

And Dee, I was sorry to hear about your get-off and would be very glad to meet you in Idaho next Summer...as a new Boxer rider, perhaps you could give me a "crash course" in riding one.. Heal up!

You can get part numbers for all that stuff from the dealers, if they are up on it.

Man,
I couldn't wait for June. I need instant gratification with all my purchases!

Why, I just bought this little convertable this morning.

Phil,

Sounds like you talked to a lot of dealers, where did end up
ordering? Always on the lookout for good dealers.

...bought mine at my local BMW dealer, as a genuine BMW product...

...I don't know if the partnumbers are all the same over the world ; but we over here use this # : 71 60 7 698 100

...the thing was 170 Euro...(a bit pricy if you ask me...)

...BTW we have the tinted screen even in our Dutch brochure...

I'll be over to trade my '72 911T with ya for the day.
You DID say that the title to Mr. Carerra is signed and in the glovebox, right?

Ron..that windscreen is beautiful..may well add to my order..

Jonyo..I tried Beaudry Motorsports, Post Falls Idaho as recommended by several folks..first they never returned emails or phone calls {Tom Murphy} then "Chuck" gave me a phone "quote" by saying: "GM says straight MSRP on all items"...soooo, I ended up where I started by ordering from Tom Jones at Mac's Cycle in Clarkston, WA...great help..prompt and I ended up about $1,200 under MSRP..plus it is the closest dealer to where I live..will keep you posted...if you call him mention that I recommended him..
