Phil Buttolph/Wallowa

Phil or other PacNW riders,

What was the condition of Hells Canyon Overlook between
HWY 82 and 86 this year?

I rode both on my FJ late in the season [late Sept] and they were fine including Hwy 39 from Hwy 82 through the Wallowas..with these warnings..rocks on rdwy [few], pot holes [few] and differing pavements with some abrupt edges [again few]..I love the forested canyons but a huge danger are the deer/elk/critters....plus going from bight sun to shadow can be an act of faith once you set your line in the corner..overall the they are wonderful bike roads.

We had a lot of snow last winter [hope we do again] and the roads were late opening..then we had massive forest fires...but Dog not the Noah downpour you folks on the wrong side of the Cascades are getting! Having said that, 60 mph winds forecast for tonight..too bad I don't have my "S" if I knew the direction of the wind on Hwy 82 I might have had a shot at exceeding 180 mph! Just kidding, just kidding..step away from the keyboards...

Thanks Phil, I didn't make over the HC pass this season so it's on
the list for next spring. Let's hope winter doesn't take out the road.

Naw, the road will hold...I do enjoy XC skiing on it in the Winter! There are a few events over here that perhaps, AFTER I get my bike, some of the Bemmer Boys might want to visit this slice of heaven..I will post the dates and times...seemly endless miles of open roads out here! Very kool.
