Winter riding jacket...

So I bought myself a Firstgear Denali jacket thinking the 3/4 length would keep me a bit more protected from things such as rain and wind. Well, at a very brisk pace, the front flap that covers the zipper lets more air in than my Hein Gericke urban all season mesh jacket (when the inner liner is installed). Actually, the Hein Gericke summer jacket doesn't let ANY wind in the front since it had two zippers, one for the inner liner and one for the jacket itself and of course a wind flap inbetween the two zippers. The Denali has more 'features' than the Hein Gericke but lacks this clever double zipper/windflap seal. Does anyone know of other 3/4 length jackets that have this same design?
What jackets are you guys using during these cold days?

It cost a ton, but the Harley fxrg Jacket is super warm, i have no problems with the cold, even at 32 degree's The jacket is about $598.00 For me, someone who hates the cold, well worth it.

Sergio, are we talking winter in SoCal?

Or something to complement a set of studded tires for travel to anywhere else in the country?

When the weather turns cold, I put away the fancy textile riding jacket and pull out my ratty old leather jacket. It windproof, and since it's a pretty simple cut, there are no vents to leak cold air. With the wind stopped, I just pile on the appropriate layers underneath and I'm good to go.

My Rev'It winter jacket has multiple over-lapping seals at the zipper. Warm and toasty. The Gerbring's helps, too.

Vanson leather jacket and Gerbing heated liner. Heated gear is cheating I know, but there's nothing like it to provide a second layer for the wind and provide real warmth.

Tony, yes, locally romping around these parts. Here's the thing though, this FG jacket is great even with these 40-50 degree temps we've been having lately. The problem is at the um... speeds I usually run at, the wind finds its way in.

Olympia AST (All Season Touring) is hands down the best piece of gear I have ever purchsed. 12,000 miles so far, about 6,000 miles in rain. Warm enough when it is cool, cool enough when it is warm (up to 80-90 degrees), dry as a bone. Supreme fit & finish.

It's not so much a heat thing, as a wind thing. I was warm, but could still feel the wind coming through the jacket. This is why I commented on the double zipper design of the Hein Gericke.

Just take your local Sunday Newspaper and put it under your Jacket where the wind blows...should block the breeze and provides extra insulation.

Seriously, I use a Goose Down Vest over my Widder Electic Vest...I usually start swetting between my shoulder blades if I don't turn it down a few notches. The Goose Down traps the Vest Heat real good and keeps the wind out too!

I just checked out the Olympia AST. Impressive.

For those that have one, no issues with the wind getting through the zippers/flaps at high speeds? 80+mph

I'm wearing a First Gear waist length jacket. It keeps the wind out well enough but the zippers themselves suck azz. They stick and jam all the time.

I bought a Teknic Spider waist length jacket for less than $100 U.S. on Ebay this Fall. The jacket is water and wind proof and features the ability to remove the outer jacket leaving behind a mesh jacket for warm weather. It has a very nice high, removable collar that keeps the wind at bay.

I've never had a warmer jacket and it kept me super warm this fall riding in temperatures in the mid 30's F. I'm from Toronto, hate cold weather riding but this jacket extended my season substantially.

Olympia AST

I just picked one up at Del Amo Motorsports (the only retailer in the immediate LA area). I'd have to agree that the Olympia is far superior and the $50 difference between it and the Denali is well worth it.

Dainese makes some excellent Touring Gore-tex jackets... you should find them on sale after the first of the year... I would trust mine down to single digits...

It does have the flap system, but there are two separate zippers and I have never noticed a problem...

I have a Clover Hydro jacket and that thing is WARM. It has the flap you are talking about. a gore-tex liner and a thinsulate-type liner -- both removable. Check it out, if you can find it.
