Side Stand hits bellypan question

Remus Y piece installed. During removal of the BMW cat, maybe I wasn't paying close enough attention to what was being taken off so now I have a problem ... ... when I flick the side stand UP, the piece that sticks out from the side stand (the bit you put your foot onto when you push the side stand DOWN) bangs the fairing. The bike is a 2003 Boxercup Replika so it is an original BMW fairing ... ... when removing the belly pan in the first place I removed the 4 scres AND the little rubber covered 'nut thingy (from the left side). Bits of CAT were removed ... was something on the CAT acting as a stop to prevent the side stand baging into the fairing???? Appreciate any help or pointers! Cheers, Nick

I think that little rubber covered 'nut thingy' is the stop for the sidestand and should stick out of a hole in the fairing and be adjusted accordingly.

TM is right. there should be two small nuts on that stopper. make sure the stopper is adjusted correctly, so when the sidestand is up, it doesn't hit the fairing. on my bike, it's almost all the way out, with only a few revs of threads going into the frame.

BRILLIANT! Thanks for that ... the problem was that there was only ONE nut on there ... the rubber 'thingy' is almost stopping the sidestand from banging the frame but not quite! I will hunt through the assorted leftovers and find that nut ! Thanks again. Regards, Nick

How it works is you thread the rubber headed bolt only far enough to make sure the stand doesn't hit the belly pan, then you tighten the nut against the frame while holding the rubber part to prevent the whole bolt from turning further into the frame. That will keep the rubber part in the required position for good. Of course you need a way to support the bike other than the side stand to do the adjustment correctly. A wall will do if you have one handy. Just lean the other side of the bike against it while you adjust the amount that the rubber bolt sticks out of the frame. -Peter

mine came with two nuts...one tightens down to the frame, the other tightens against the back of the rubber section, which allows you to turn and tighten the bolt. i shall remove it immediately, go down to my dealer and return the extra one.

Excellent, hope you get a big refund. Although with BMW dealers probably not On my 04 it's exactly like this - the hex is built in to the rubber on the bolt, one metal nut (and washer) to tighten up to the frame. Oh and Nick, the picture is wrong in that the washer goes between the nut and the frame, not the way the picture shows.

Thanks both ... actually I found another nut last night and put the stopper (rubber thingy) back on this morning. Works fine. Of course, the twoi nuts are slighty different shapes so I guess I will lose out on some 'cool points' Seriously, though, thanks for all the help! Cheers, Nick
