				uberschnorkel part deux

So I did a big schnorkel prototype this supper; made it out of 4" flexi heater duct. it was a crude product, but I wanted to validate a few things.

One of the things was that the battery/motronic location needed to be...relocated. there is some room to work with if you don't have ABS, so this cut saw me move the battery, CPU and ignitors for my HID lights. My nology coils also needed a relo. A bit of work but the initial results are outstanding...

Jony, I am impressed. If you turn the battery side ways then you can hide a small Nitres bottle under the tank.

That looks really healthy. The question is, what does it do to the torque/HP curve, once you've dynolink tuned the power commander? It'd be great to have a before/after curve... -arbi

ZOWEEE...What a gaping MAW!...Maybe you've already done it but might be a good idea to put something like Chicken Wire on the front opening to keep small animals and children from being sucked in.

Come to think of it, even the stock snorkel opening has a "screen" to keep loose road trash from making it's way down the snorkel...now wouldn't that slow you down suddenly without warning?

Nice work (us usual) Jony, looks like the next 2 weeks will be spent cleaning the fiberglass dust from everything in the shop though... Unless you have a vacuum cleaner attachment for the uber schnorkel...

it IS fiberglass and the plug was a total M-F to make. It's shaped internally like a huge intake port and tapers down to the mouth of the filter.

Very nice work Jony. I likey much better than the dryer hose. Obviously much more work though, but it seems you pulled it off very nicely indeed. The most amazing part is you were able to do all that while on the road with your luggage still in place.

Very nice work! I'm a fellow fiberglass nut myself, although all of the projects I've done in the past 10 years have been in car audio installations. No plugs required....just use glass to make it curvy, bondo, sand, sand, sand, sand, sand (did I mention there is a lot of SANDING involved!?), then cover in vinyl or paint. Cool and fun to do, but several levels below what you've done here.

Did you have to destroy the plugs to get the piece out, or will you be producing these things for other pelican members to enjoy?

				Dumb Question intake tube size????

i read with interest a recent article that reported hp gain (mid range) and ridabilty improvements by replacing the intake runner tubes from the airbox to the TB's on a r1100rs. (used runner tubes from a r1100gs)

has anyone researched this as a potential improvement for the r1100s?

To Motoman: How much did your kit cost? Bet getting the airbox out was a beetch. I saw it on a BMW site, can't recall the site. They sell other performance stuff as well, inc. a really weird-looking exhaust that juts out, and a mystery electronic box.
