abs reset
Have put a few miles on the bike now. She handles okay. Still alot of cosmetics left to fix. And there was a dime sized spot of what I fear might be hypoid gear oil type GL5 on the garage floor. Am a month or so away from the big annual service. Will have it sorted out then.
My main concern is the ABS. I remember some talk of a technique for resetting. Want to see if it's just the computer unhappy at being on it's side. Any of you all know? john p.s. there's a patriot guard event tomorrow/teusday. it's right in the middle of los angeles. i've been to a few of these. really pretty simple. Final Itinerary Sgt. Lawrence J. Carter Services will begin at 1000 11 Jan 2007 Stone Mortuary 355 East 9th St Upland Ca. Internment will follow at Riverside National Cemetery We will stage at: Cocos Restaurant 150 East 7th Street Upland Ca. We will meet at 0830 Brief at 0845 KSU at 0930 Craig (Batfish) will be the RC on this mission. http://www.patriotguard.org/Forums/tabid/61/forumid/11/postid/368520/view/topic/Default.aspx

More than likely, you'll need a dealer reset on the ABS. There are rumors of a DIY reset procedure on the first generation S ABS systems, but all the proceedure I've seen on the net require the GS's ABS defeat button.

I had a minor crash on my '01 R1100S (w/ ABS). I hit the ground, the engine stayed on and the back wheel continued to spin while the front was stopped. I fixed everything on the bike, but the ABS lights would not quit flashing. I did a search here or on the ADV rider web sight and got a nice procedure that worked perfectly.
It required removing the tank, disconnecting the ECU from the bike harness, putting a jumper wire between two terminals on the ECU, reconnecting the harness taking care to ensure the jumper wire remained where you put it and then turning the key on. There might be a step I'm leaving out, but in the end, it worked like a champ. I did it because the nearest BMW dealer is 300 miles. When I get home tonight, I'll check to see if I can find the procedure. |

bledsoe,
that sounds like the procedure i remember. tried seaching the adv site, but couldn't find anything. my bmw dealer is ten blocks away, i just suspect they'll want an assload of money. have inspect the gear oil. there's been no discernable drop. but the thing really doesn't lend itself to accurate measurement. stil, i got a leak coming from somewhere.

A good DIY for this process would be very welcome; there's been a lot of talk about it, but I've never seen anyone write it up in a way that gave me any confidence to try it. I suspect the jumpering step serves the same purpose as the GS's ABS defeat button holddown. - Mark |

Do a search. Use "ABS, fault, reset". Search only in the R1100S technical forum.
Look for a thread that is titled "ABS fault lights is there a non dealer involved reset" Kpoling is the thread starter. 2/2005. The thread is 3-5 pages of posts, the last few posts explain it. Hope this helps. ![]() |
