Windshield heights-

What is your windshield height, say center of bike, bottom to top? A BMW branded shield I had in the attic is 12 inches, and this will be mounted during my er correction of a November incident.
I believe the BCR's are all shorter than stock S's, and i had a tinted aftermarket shield before.

My prior shield is gone and I have forgotten how much i cut it down to. I'm 6 ft. and thinking maybe cut down to 8 inches.

what do you have? thanks ingmar

12" is the BCR and prep, while 18" is the "touring model."

I cut my 12" stock one down 2 inches .... lots cleaner air ... might even give the 8" a shot

Thanks Modog, that makes sense as it came with but off the bike. I will try it at 12 and start cutting from there.

Now to solve the won't turn over problem. As i just replaced throttle side controls which came from an earlier bike. Everything works except the starter? Thought this was covered earlier but search didn't find it.

Pop the plastic cover off your starter motor - there's a small allen bolt holding it on that is tucked behind the cover and faces forward - a conventional allen key can get to this bolt.

The starter relay and motor are both behind this cover, so you can troubleshoot whether you're getting not getting 12V to the relay when you press the button, getting power to the relay but not the motor, or whether the motor is getting power but not turning.

If you're not getting power to the relay, then the first thing I'd check is all the startup lockout circuits - sidestand, neutral switch, and clutch. I believe the algorithm is:

if in neutral (N light on): bike starts/runs regardless of clutch or sidestand
if not in neutral (N light off):
>>if sidestand down: bike won't run/start
>>if sidestand up:
>>>>if clutch pulled: bike starts/runs
>>>>if clutch not pulled: bike will run but won't start

thanks Mark
good step by step that confirmed my days work..
Working off GS wiring diagram posted earlier (similar but not same), and then comparing remnants of original and replacement. early and new have 7 wires coming from controls but only 6 used to plug into socket. finally figured green/yellow joins green red in soldered joint inline. it worked.
as an aside early harness front brake switch is opposite of later, one is always on, one is always off. sockets don't match up either, so shorten overlenght stock wiring (must be same for GS?) for both brake and switch controls and solder, shrink wrap all.

oh watch out for centering spring on kill switch, tiny and hides well, and hidden screw under chrome decal.

hope this helps someone in future. ingmar
