Wow, so much to comment on:

Patrick, congrats on the purdy bike. Looking forward to the Irish drinking songs...tell your dad I've been studying my Gaelic (haha, he'll get it...or he should anyway )

Kerry, some of us 'may' want to see your tat (Cyndy? Shannon?) so just ignore whoever said we didn't...and you very obviously fit right in here. Be afraid, be very afraid.

I will be attending, but I may not be there until 0100 hrs on Saturday. Now that I see the Pendleton Excursion is Friday...I will try even harder to get off work Friday to be there for that! Otherwise...see everyone Saturday at breakfast.

John, We'll surely miss you.

Brent, It'll be good to see you.

Roger...you gonna be there?

Brad...I'll get you the info shortly.

I was out in the Temecula/Elsinore area looking at a real estate development deal last week and I took the Ortega Highway back across the mountains to I-5 to get to the John Wayne Airport. That was fun, even in a rented SUV.

Are we going to be on that road? Or roads like it? Please, someone start taunting me about curvey roads. It hightens my anticipation and may elicit a moto-woody.

We dont have curvey roads here. The guys that founded Texas drove cattle for a living and they firmly believed in the "shortest distance between two points is a straight line" and should be paved with hoof divits and cow$hit. So that's what we got.

I guess horses dont corner like modern sport bikes.

Looking forward to meeting everyone. Stay safe.

kjazz (kerry, whatever)

on a one to ten scale, ortega hwy is about a 2 compared to some of the roads we'll cover in san diego.
last year a lot of the riders did ortega hwy on sunday morning. most of them went "ho-hum...not nearly as good as what we did yesterday."

i've ridden most of the fun roads in california, and the only other place that compares is the central CA area....except their really good spots are spaced further apart.
in san diego, it's the reader's digest version...twisty road after twisty road, with very little boring stuff inbetween. the roads around here are one of the main reasons i moved to this area. in one day you can go from 6,000 ft. alpine forests to the bottom of the desert floor...and use all the twisty roads it takes to get there.
everyone always mentions "palomar mountain road", and we'll do that one, but as a "new local", i've learned that palomar pales in comparision to many of the roads surrounding it.....and they're mostly deserted, even on a saturday.
i believe on last year's run, our average speed from breakfast to the lunch break was about 32 mph. that number goes up significantly in the afternoon when we head down to the desert and back up. (ask wheelie boy, he giggled for hours about his trip on the "glass elevator" (montezuma valley road).

Kerry,
There are sections of the roads in San Diego that make most race tracks seem simple and boring.

By comparison 74 is a superslab.

...the section with the water crossings is de luze road... coming down palomar you have two viable options (3 if you want to go dirt tracking)... Julian you have many options... you can come up old sunrise highway or go past lake cyamaca... you can come up banner grade or seven other ways from sunday... point is, no matter where you go,

IT IS A HELLUVALOTOFFUN!

That was so creepy. Reminded me of an old Twilight Zone episode where a portion of the earth was transported to another planet, and we found the edge.

But then the clouds parted and there was pie.

John,
I just "flew" the road in google earth and it still looks pretty desolate even with out the fog!

Wish you could be there when we do it again!

Oh well, you appreciate things more when you don't get everything you want. Next time.
